Commercial Description:
Bottled - pasteurised.
Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

And now - a man with TWO recorders up this nose!.....hahah Python nerdiness...A brilliant orange brew that produced a huge light tan cap with excellent retention and leaving a fairly dirty glass. Zero effervecence. The aroma come quick with a very soft peach / orange mix, bready malts, hops and honey (?). Fragrant and floral as well. Once warmer, the smell is mainly malts. Taste for me was obvious - floral hops. Some sourness and so-so malt content. Too bad that I find the sour flavour annoying enough to leave a negative impression. Light medium bodied with ok carbonation. The bitterness is almost metallic. Bitter finish as expected. The mouthfeel is pretty good but the underlying sourness has really turned me of of this beer.

An old favorite from years gone by, lets see how I like it now. Pours as I remember with the big fluffy white head and a decent lace, clear with a deep golden color. Aroma is soft and malty with a bit of herbal hop presence. Flavor has a nice bright maltiness, there is an odd familiar flavor, sweet and fruity that I can’t put my finger on, like an odd candy that I like but I just can’t identify at the moment! The hoppiness is very present and somewhat herbal in a sort of grassy way but it’s fairly well muted and seems to be more in the mix for balance than for a particular hop character. This is a nice little subtle beer, nothing to flip a lid over but I like it about as much as I ever did.

Can split with Curly and ScottyP at the Impromtu Woody’s Ticker Tasting. Clear applejuice pour with light tan ring of head. Light caramel and apple aromas. Flavor is green apples fruity lightly hopped, extremely mild. Light apple pie quality. Not bad, but just the typical english style of mildness, and a pretty cool name.

Taste like most English ales. Light and slightly creamy. Pairs well with most red meats and chicken that has been on the grill. Makes an interesting conversation piece for your non-beer fanatic friends.

Bottle. I feel like i may be swayed by how great the movie is, or i wasn’t expecting much from a gimmick beer but i enjoyed this beer. Good flavor, not much in the sense of aroma, i would call this a solid beer. Ni!

The first time I saw this beer was a few years ago, a beerchronic had brought one back from the states for his own collection and being the selfish bastard that he is only brought me back 5 free beers Monty Pythons Holy Grail not being one of them. And i wanted that one bad for the sole reason of it having a kewl name/lable. After many years i spotted it here in the great white north of Canada, and with great excitement and a girlish squeal let out in the beer cooler i picked up. I’m not sure if it was the very long and excited wait or the fact this was really not all that good of a beer but wholly shyte was i disappointed. The first thing i noticed about this beer was the very low carbonation and the lack of head along with this it had the mouth feel of a glass of warm water. There was very little in the way of taste, and what taste there was lingered on your tung for a long while getting more bitter every minet I will say the limited flavor it had wasn’t all that bad it was just hard to find. To me this wasn’t a waste of money because I’ll have a new kewl bottle for the collection but if i had bought just the bottle with out the beer in it i would not have been disappointed. So in conclusion bottle = awesome, beer = brown water.

Truly only a gimmick beer. Pours clear amber with a soapy off-white head. The aroma has lightly toasted malt, no hops and some diacetyl. Medium / light smooth body with light carbonation. The flavor is like the aroma with some phenolic spice. No really offensive, but nothing I’d ever get again.
