COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled - pasteurised.
Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

Bottled. Even as you know you want to try it for the name alone, something in the back of your mind says this could be another 3 Stooges Panther Pilsner. But no, instead a pretty nice bitter. Maybe a little carbonated to please American tastes, but that's the only consession it seems to make. Bitter is not a style I've had a lot of experience in, but I'll suspect this is somewhat middling against the well done ones. Good light brown color and maltiness, slight fruitiness. Just fun to bring out. And I found at the Whole Food Market in Chicago (so it may not have traveled as well as it might.

DATE TASTED: April 30, 2015... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... OCCASION: just having used MP as a Medieval Romance review, this made sense tonight--and as the Browns draft, they search yet again for that elusive Holy Grail known as starting quarterback... APPEARANCE: clear, orange amber body with mild effervescence; thin, steady, snow-white head that frames the body attractively; appropriate lacing.. AROMA: nutty, buttery scent with some mellow citrus hints; malts are bready and ...PALATE: smooth, rather uneventful mouthfeel; slightly dry; reasonably weighted... TASTE: a funky, astringent flavor with some nutty suggestions; definite bitterness on the tongue; easy-drinking but indistinguishable in its profile; lemon, pear and some aromatic hops--not impressive...OVERALL: a beer that screams "novelty!" and tastes just as here-and-gone; a brown ale’s throat coat late, and the majority of the experience is watered down--not much like the film for which it is named...

Ua fairly typical premium bitter. Rich and sweet and tasty but nothing too original or incredible. Nonetheless nice.

Pours deep golden with medium white head. Nose is bready. Aromas are malts, bread, some citrus. Very light body, medium carbonation. Short bitter finish. Nice label and name, but the beer is not worth a shit!

Very simple beer. Pours a deep golden amber color with a white head. Very light and almost can i say empty body. Very bready nose. Slight bitter presence in finish. Bready flavor. Not getting any fruit flavor. Not for me.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy bright orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Slight earthy herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. very nice robustness and balance of bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.7%. Overall this is a very good English pale ale. All around good robustness and balance of bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Honey orange color. Very little head, looks syrupy. Severe sugar and caramel in the nose. There is a mild euro hop, but mostly malt. It’s actually very pleasant if you can handle the sweetness. The taste mirrors the aroma: sweet but not saccharine, lots of toffee. The feel is slick and buttery. This is a very sweet, pleasant beer.

Deep but clear orange with almost no head. Aroma is almost like a rye whiskey but quite mild. Nice and malty.

C’est sympa, c’est léger, c’est direct mais c’est pas exaltant et pas super équilibré non plus. Je n’ai pas trop senti la sorcière brulée ... En même temps, la date de consommation optimale de ma bouteille était dépassée ...
