Bottled - pasteurised.
Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

Bottled. Even as you know you want to try it for the name alone, something in the back of your mind says this could be another 3 Stooges Panther Pilsner. But no, instead a pretty nice bitter. Maybe a little carbonated to please American tastes, but that's the only consession it seems to make. Bitter is not a style I've had a lot of experience in, but I'll suspect this is somewhat middling against the well done ones. Good light brown color and maltiness, slight fruitiness. Just fun to bring out. And I found at the Whole Food Market in Chicago (so it may not have traveled as well as it might.

500ml bottle, 4.7% ABV. Rich gold verging on amber with a white head that fades. Slight honey notes?

Bottle. Sweet sugar aroma. Light copper in color. Very light tasting ale with a sweet, bready finish. Surprisingly drinkable and refreshing, just lacking a lot of initial flavor. A lot of carb. Almost ciderish. Iíd say itís alright.

Refreshing. Crisp. A bit sweet yet bitter at the end. Draft. Too light. Easy going session beer.

50cl bottle, Maruhn 12/2013. Obviously purchased for the novelty label. Pours a deep and unctuous acajou-orange, not betraying its below 5% abv. Aroma of roasted nuts, orange marmelade and slight abv fumes... Taste is more candied orange marmelade on an earthy yello palate, pleasant hop notes shining through a tired/soggy yeast profile and burnt caramel. Overall very unbalanced, drinkable, but not a complete joy to down - must be that witch temperance!

Bottle pour into a brandy snifter. Pours a clear amber to copper with a white head of foam that dissipates at a moderate rate. The aroma is grainy and sweet. Sugary. Sweet taste. Medium carbonation.

Iíll start of with "This beer is nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be." The name and label immediately scream "Commercial sellout, this will taste horrible." Pours a bright gold with a small white head. Bready aromaís on the nose. Very clean taste, with just a touch of hops. Very simple beer, but made very well.
