Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

Bottle. Poured a clear light brown with a large frothy white head that dissapated quickly and had fair lacing. The aroma was pleasant with the scent of caramel malts, a sweet yeast and a mild grassy hop. It tasted mildly sweet in the beginning and finished about the same with a hint of caramel and hops with the flavor being very light and fading quickly at the finish. Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a soft carbonation. Overall a very, very mild tasting brew. I think I like the name better than the beer.

Bitter, sharp hoppy flavour, more alcohol warmth than the abv would indicate (sugar in the mix I note), decent maltiness. Feels a little unbalanced. Drinkable but not great.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours amber in color with a small head. A bit of butterscotch, some biscuit and floral notes in aroma. Flavor is a bit on the bitter side with hints of floral and citrus. We are no longer the knights who say Ni!

Amber color. Aroma is malty with suprising blackcurrant notes. Taste has berries also and good malt base. Bitter finish last long.

The aroma of this brew is subtle with hints of toasted malts and sour bread yeast, and the appearance is a yellowish orange with a large fleeting head that dissipates to a thin layer of white foam on top of the liquid. The taste is mildly sour, slightly sweet, and slightly bitter, and the palate combines a medium body, average carbonation, either a thin or slick texture (it’s hard to discern because of the carbonation), and an abrupt finish.

Had it out of a bottle, poured a clear amber hue with a slight head and no lacing. The aroma is a bit hop sour, and the taste is bitter malt flavor similar to macro brews. Kitshy label and great color, so I guess she’s pretty to look at, but not much else.

500ml bottle. Clear dark golden amber colour, foamy off-white head that quickly dissipates away and a malt mash aroma. Initial fizzy dry hoppy bitterness that lingers, layered against a thin malt taste with earthy & fruity notes. Light bodied, well carbonated. OK.

Got the bottle at Giant Eagle for less than $2.50 in Pittsburgh. While the beer was not awful, it simply lacked any taste. I should have been suspicious when I found out it wasn’t made in England.

This is truly a terrible beer. Corn in aroma and mouth. Unpleasant malts and barely any hop character. Bleh!

0,5l bottle. Aroma is hops and some malt, and taste is pretty much hops. Medium bitterness. Overall, it is very good beer.
