Cask @ GBBF 2011. Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. Has a slightly roasted malty caramel and dark fruit aroma. Roasted malty caramel flavor with hints of dark fruit. Has a roasted malty dark fruity finiah with hints of caramel.

Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 2009. Cask, handpump dispense. Ruby black with a thin white head. Intense malty aroma with molasses and damsons present. Creamy rich mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malt complex gives maltloaf with raisins, figs, plums and treacle toffee. Slight hint of liquorice with the spicy hops to give a good robust aftertaste. Sweetness returns with a sherry like alcoholic warmth. A cracking strong ale and completely different from Old Peculier, try them together for comparison - that’s a festival in itself!

Cask @ GBBF 2011. A dark brown colored beer, with a beige head. The aroma fresh fruits like cherries, some malts. The taste of dark fruits, malty with bitterness. The aftertaste is some bitter with sweets.

Half pint at the Black Sheep Visitor Centre. Dark brown with a well formed head. Very nice chocolate/coffee taste. Sweet and nice. Chocolatey aroma. Very pleasant indeed but a little too sickly sweet to be a session beer.

From cask. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and slight fruity. Bitter, dark malty and light fruity. Dark malty and slight roasted. Bitter and dry malty. Dry and roasted finish.

(Cask at GBBF London Earl’s Court, 4 Aug 2010) Dark reddish brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins, prunes, figs and sweet liquorice. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, raisins, prunes, dark bread, over-ripe pineapple and a good, spicy bitterness. More than medium body, with a solid malt sweetness. Well balanced and tasty, mooreish. Very nice.

Cask. The CB Inn, Reeth. Thick off-white head via sparkler. Dark, reddish-brown body. Initially very strong fruits, followed by bread. Then grass detectable. Chocolate starts to show itself, followed by burnt toffee on the finish. Dry finish, full bodied.

Hand pulled cask at the brewery visitor centre and several North Yorkshire pubs over the years. Ruby brown with a thick sparkled beige head. Sweet fruity malts with some chocolate and a hint of peat along side some very fresh hops in the finish. A rather underated ale.

0,5 l bottle, bought at Bierei, Vienna. Nice appearance with a dark amber-brown-reddish color, medium foamy beige head. Nice roasted malt andcoffee in the aroma, fine espresso coffee and roasted grains in the flavor with some sourish top-yeast. Long roasted aftertaste.
