3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz goblet at The Terminal. Black Shirt makes some really pretty beers. This is a brilliant, clear red with a white head. Aroma is malty with hints at toffee, biscuits, chocolate and well utilized hops add a touch of citrus. The palate is medium. Very clean and balanced flavor. For the style the malt is pleasantly complex. Bready flavors anywhere from caramel to chocolate to earth are noted. A fairly sturdy bitterness gives balance with some citrus hop flavors rounding out the finish. This is what I want from a red ale. Very well done.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample from Studio Track #2014-03 at the tap room. Reddish-amber color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel and fruit. Medium-bodied with flavors of roast malt, caramel and mild grassy hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Pours a thick, well retained, light beige head, over a clear copper/amber (SRM 18) body....nose is toasted malts, with biscuit tones, light rye type spice, light pine, floral honey notes....taste is slightly sweet malts with hints of fig, cocoa, floral honey notes, light lemon tones from the hops, ending with a moderate bitter finish.....mouth feel, medium body, mils astringency, slight acid. This really is not an Amber. It is quite atypical, of loads of spice note from the malt back bone, floral tones from the hops. It is one of those craft experiments, that worked, think of it as a dark APA. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pretty unremarkable red ale. I mean, it’s good it’s just that there is nothing much to say. I could drink it all night though.
