On tap at Black Shirt poured a clear reddish amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, fruittiness and pepper. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, fruiottiness and light pepper with a smooth dry lingering fruity finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Steve_0 (1271) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 1, 2013
On tap at the brewery. Pour is hazy orange with a small white head and good lacing. Somewhat tangy, doughy, peppery aroma, light grass, citrus, biscuit, and honey. Taste is nice clove, a touch of coriander, bread, doughy, biscuit, somewhat grassy, tangy, floral, waxy, and fruity with a touch of spice on the finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Nice to see a local brewery doing a well-built saison.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 onceblind (2535) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 3, 2012
Hazy light amber with a foamy sticky lacy head. Very interesting aroma of Saison yeast with nice restrained dustiness, a bit if hay, a bit of caramel, and some subtle bright fruitiness like pineapple and/or tangerine. Great flavor of dusty hay, earthy caramel, light fruitiness, blonde grains, and crystal malts with a dry biscuity finish. Very Belgian tasting, as if it were in an expensive imported corked bottle.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 notalush (4174) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 13, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 10, 2013 (Have sampled again and find it lacking the phenolic complexity of my earlier sample - still enjoy it, but not nearly as much) Hazy red pour - thick, soapy lace - nose is fairly earthy - some dry, Biscuity malt character, lightly peppery phenols, a little bit of plastic, but the good, Orvalish kind - some lightly sweaty, earthy character - carbonation is creamy - body is full and creamy - flavor is dry and spicy/peppery - phenols and just slightly dirty, but only slightly - like earthy soil - hard to decide if they’re really detrimental or not - I don’t find them off-putting - overall flavors are very peppery (both phenols and hops), with very mild esters - Biscuity malt throughout - very soft carbonation and a firm, dry malt base throughout - light fruity esters - very well-attenuated and crisp - I’m loving this.
