Bottle from the brewpub. Dark brown to black with a tan head. The aroma is roasted malt and chocolate with some peppers and a bit of licorice. Flavor is roasted malt with some smokey chipotle pepper notes. I get some chocolate and some light ash notes. There is some heat from the pepper. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

This beer is through the roof - packed with flavors of chilies and cacao. Its roasted malts give it a deep color and slightly sweet taste. Party in my mouth!

On tap at the brewpub. Black pour with a small tan head. Aroma is pepper, maybe smokey, and chocolate. Taste is angry spices and astringency. Awkward finish.

Very dark brown. The light barely pierces it. Frothy off-white head. Very strong licorice and coffee aroma when agitated. Otherwise not much aroma at all. Dried cayenne chillipepper taste. Straight chili powder. Weird. More like a funky drink than a beer. It leaves one bit wavy into of lacing on the glass as you drink it. The finish leaves a bite on the lips and a burn in the belly.

GABF 2011. Pitch black with a fading light tan head. Smells of burnt cocoa, herbal peppers, a small kick of coffee, and whey protein mix. Flavor was big-ish with dark milk chocolate, with a peppery green heat. A little astringent, really burnt, with loads of herbal tones. Weird.
