oldrtybastrd (1793), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Dec 28, 2005 Pours a deep golden yellow color. Aromas of malt, hops, and a touch of grass. Flavor is crisp with a mild hopping and grain like taste. willblake (1952), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA Jan 5, 2004 Used to drink a ton of this stuff when I first lived in Bozeman, then the quality went to pot and they started to market in cans and ballie-boys advertising the 5.6% ABV. Used to be my northwest Yeungling, but turned into my Steel Reserve. Pretty much undrinkable these days. Thin, bland, annoyingly fizzy, way too sweet. Too bad. billk (291), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA Dec 29, 2003 Updated: Jan 6, 2004Bottle. Too bad for ol Black Star golden lager. It was rather good, although a bit ambery, when it was first introduced. Its what weaned me off the American non beers. It died a very long, slow death through a constant decrease in quality. I'll still visit Whitefish though, great town to "hang out" in!..........
Draught. Rate 4.5 can't find Black Star hefeweitzen listed. I used to visit the brewery in Whitefish at least once/yr to drink this. It was a light American wheat but one of my absolute best beer experiences. So fresh and grain tasting, unfiltered, slightly viscous. Like a loaf of good home made bread. If given the chance I would drink it until I fell under the table. I tried it in the bars & restaurants and it was never as good as in the tasting room at Black Star. Salute! wulfhere (217), Billings, Montana, USA Nov 25, 2003 Pale golden, small head that vanished almost immediately. Strong hop character in the nose--hopped in the secondary, so the bouquet is stronger than your average lager. Body is thin, taste is very slightly malty, with a bitter hop edge. Macro-micro brewery (read Plank Brewery or Blue Moon). thefatguy (34), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 23, 2002 Good Lager. Nice aroma and appearance. Flavor is nice as well. Goes down smooth.
