COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A delightful alternative to mainstream American lagers; our flagship beer, Black Star Golden Lager is a full bodied traditional American beer. Our unique double hopping process gives this beer a pronounced hop aroma and a crisp refreshing finish.

12oz can into a Black Star mason jar. Deep golden color with brilliant clarity and a fizzy white head that dissipates relatively quickly. The aroma is mostly wet straw and a touch of grass with slight sweet bread and green apple. The flavor has a touch of spicy hops in the finish, proceeded by a light malty sweetness and mild carbonic acidity. Not a lot of definition or malt flavor overall. The aftertaste is mostly soda water and is relatively short and clean. Light in body, but not as light as the macro American lagers. Pretty lacking in distinction and flavor for a product from a smaller brewery, and not overwhelmingly better than the big boys at an American pale lager. I don’t really see the utility of this.

12oz can. Clear golden in color with a small white head, a little on the fizzy side. The aroma has sweet malt, honey, corn, and mild unexciting hop notes. Pretty standard and rather bland flavor. Pale malt, corn, honey, and hop bitterness. Lighter on the mouthfeel with average carbonation, maybe a bit more. Not impressed. Thought this would be better.

Sampled in a 12oz bottle. This beer is big on grains and big on malts. Not much in the way of hops. A nice smooth brew.

12 oz can into Sam Adams lager glass. Now this beer brings back some memories. Haven’t seen this around since the early 2000s. Pours clear gold with a large white head with great retention. Aromas include creamed corn, cereal grain, SweeTarts, sour cherry jam. Taste is sweet and grainy and a bit salty. Carbonation is high, body is light. Has a bit of a tart finish. Bland, but not as bland as most of these types of beers.

Massive cereal grain and corn on the nose. Some metal as well. Clear gold is nice, but white head is almost nonexistent for a lager. Not much of the hops at all on nose or palate. Taste or cereal with carbonic bite halfway through. Some slight floral hop at the very finish.

Aluminum can from 7-11: Poured with a thin layer of foam head that was very fizzy and eventually broke down leaving behind a pale golden liquid. In the nose, there is a mild aroma of cheap hop pellets if even that along with some weak caramel scented malts. The flavor is intensely sweet with sugar and reminds me a lot of an ice tea, but at the same time, this also tastes a lot like an apple cider. Carbonation is not even existent and the drink falls flat and bland. Poor excuse for beer, I should have just bought a Tecate.

[Bottle] Clear copper color, decent head formation. Clean grainy, bubblegum aroma. Straightforward lightly grainy palate, a little hop bite in the finish. Slightly better than average macro alternative.

24oz can. Pours clear gold color with an average white head. Soft grassy aroma with some honey sweetness. Not much there in the flavor department, but it does finish with a hint of sweet malt. Watery texture with average carbonation. What it lacks in flavor it makes up for in smoothness. Simple and refreshing. It doesn’t have that cheap corn or metallic flavor found in countless macros.

Smells crisp, malty and sweet. Heavy sweetness with a mild bitter, salty back. Honestly, I think the sweetness is a little overpowering and needs to be tempered some.Tastes a little metallic too, unfortunately. Light texture, carbonation is fizzy like soda pop and the overall body is a little thin. It’s not bad, but there’s nothing special here.
