3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tallahassee, Fl. - Trader Joe’s - 12 oz bottle. Dark brown pour, quicly fading off-white head. Aroma is nutty with some light chocolate accents. Flavor has some earthy potting soil notes, some light chocolate, a touch of licorice. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle with a BB date of July 2015.
Pours clear, very dark brown, with a large tan head.
Aroma: mild medium and dark roasted grains with a lighter roast than the appearance suggests. Faint hint of coffee.
Flavor: mild medium and dark roasted grains with a neutral bitter/sweet balance.
Feel: medium-light body; very smooth
O: enjoyable dark ale that straddles the brown ale / light porter categories.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s. So many of the brown ales are on the lighter, washed out side and, hence, not memorable. This one is stronger, porter like, with a nice roasty molasses flavor that hides the alcohol and is only moderated by a rich malt base. No floral hops flavor here. Very drinkable, enjoyable and at $6.69 a six pack a real steal.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from 12 oz bottle. Dark brown cola color. Good tan head eliminates to thin film but a little gathers in corners. Trader Joes best brew in my oppinion. A very smooth but flavorful ale, with roasted coffee notes, nutty body. Sweet yeasty aroma

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
355ml bottle Cola-colored pour, frothy slightly tan head. Aroma is earthy soy with just a hint of spicy coffee. Falvor is a bit roasty, some roasted chicory notes, roasted spices, some yeasty esters. Its definitely not a run of the mill brown ale.

"maybe i’m splitting hairs here, but this is more like a black lager than a porter or brown. solid, roasty tones, in the nose and flavor, if a little thin. nice dry finish. so-so mouthfeel."

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A pretty decent brown ale. Medium bodied, nice balance, but lacking that assertive roasted character that would distinguish it from the pack.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Who knew that Trader Joe’s brewed their own beer? Kind of random, but I’m interested. I like the tricky name, Josephs Brau. Anyways, it isn’t the greatest Brown Ale you will ever try, but they out in a good effort. For what it’s worth, I would drink it again.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
This is a poor attempt at a malty brown ale, I’d say. It is nice looking at least, garnet brown w/ a creamy head. It smells and tastes mostly like old roasted malt and slightly oversweet and thick. It is pretty much wince-worthy at first but after the first aromas waft away it becomes drinkable if a little bland, taking on a bit of roast coffee and milk chocolate. My bottle has a best by date five months from now, I don’t know when this was used but the term "best by" was certainly used in the loosest possible fashion, I think. But, hey, this was brewed for Trader Joe’s and sold at Trader Joe’s. If they are not gonna get it to me fresh, I am going to rate it as is, which is stale. No excuses.

Black pour from 12oz bottle at home. Nutty oily aroma. Creamy nutty flavor with slight cocoa notes. Something a little off on this but can't put my finger on it. Ok overall
