2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 uncle_rick (59) - Missouri, USA - FEB 9, 2011From Trader Joes. Dark clear brown with a little tan head. Light roasted flavor. A little too watery and flat for me. My expectations were low, so maybe that affected my rating. I’d never buy this again. BONUS RATING- My dad didn’t even like it either.

12oz bottle from Trader Joe’s. Dark brown color, clear. Small head, fades down to nothing. Malty-sweet medium aroma. Burned malt taste, somewhat dry, lots of linger. Good value for a buck.

Pours a light brownish amber color with a small dissipating head. Nose is malty with slight hints of espresso. Taste is sweet with predominance of roasted malt. Finish is sweet as well with lingering malt. Drinkable, but have had better brown ales. Quaff Score 6 / 10

12oz bottle, just $1 from my local Trader Joe’s. Best before 7/14/13. Clear dark red color, kind of brown. Minimal white head. Little dots of lace. Dark fruit, light chocolate, lightly nutty aroma. Medium body. Not too strong carbonation, nothing special about the texture, more dry carbonation, nothing lingering. Some chocolate syrup type flavor in the aftertaste. Sweeter taste overall, nothing too strong though. Nice sweet chocolaty nutty brown ale.

Always enjoyed beer from Gordon Biersch. This is a tasty Brown Ale. Smooth Chocolate and Coffee flavors. Not too heavy so you can drink more than one.

12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s. It pours a nice brown color with a decent off white head. The aroma is classic brown ale. Nice and toasty/nutty with a hint of biscuit and cocoa. Lightly roasted. The flavor is is the same. Good level of brown sugar and molasses sweetness without being cloying, backed up by toasted malt and cocoa. Good full body. Pretty much a perfect brown ale, and at $6 a sixer, a screaming deal! Lots more please.

Bottle I found at Trader Joes that James’ place for a tasting. Pours a clear brown with a thin white head. Soft roast with a bit of musky toast and warm grains. Sweet and toasty, long sweet caramel with a very soft bit of bitterness on the end.

Save a toad, just drink the pond water. What style is this supposed to be, it’s not even close to a porter or stout, nor is it smooth like a schwarzbier (sp).
The deal killer is an intense sweet aftertaste within a second of the sip. It isn’t a rich malty sweetness, it’s a sharp saccharine sweetness. Like Diet Pepsi (another pond water variant). There is little body and the roasted flavors are of low level but harsh, not balanced by medium roasts. I think black malt was used to get color and harshness without flavor and body.

Draft. Pours clear amber with a beige head. Sweet malts, light grainy notes and low bitterness. On the bland side, but not bad.
