We begin with a custom mixture of dark and roasted barley malts, then we add the choicest hops. The resulting ale has a dark chestnut color and a deep nutty flavor. Brewed specially for Trader Joe’s.

Another 77 cent Trader Joe’s beer. This one actually was not too bad. Pours a very dark brown with an ultra-thin light beige head. Very little lacing. Aroma is lightly nutty and malty. Flavor is malty smooth with some hops and a nutty finish. All of these attributes are in small quantities though, and it was on the bland side overall.

355ml bottle Cola-colored pour, frothy slightly tan head. Aroma is earthy soy with just a hint of spicy coffee. Falvor is a bit roasty, some roasted chicory notes, roasted spices, some yeasty esters. Its definitely not a run of the mill brown ale.

Deep black pour. The nose is lightly toasty. A little bit of soft cocoa and chocolate as well. Lightly roasted malt. There is an almost chestnut-like flavour in here. Slightly coffeeish with a bit of light cocoa as well. Lingering sweet chocolate toward the finish. Herbal hopping. It’s light, but pretty nice.

12oz bottle, just $1 from my local Trader Joe’s. Best before 7/14/13. Clear dark red color, kind of brown. Minimal white head. Little dots of lace. Dark fruit, light chocolate, lightly nutty aroma. Medium body. Not too strong carbonation, nothing special about the texture, more dry carbonation, nothing lingering. Some chocolate syrup type flavor in the aftertaste. Sweeter taste overall, nothing too strong though. Nice sweet chocolaty nutty brown ale.

Bottle. Deep chestnut brown pour with a creamy head that fades quickly. Nice aroma of chocolate, toffee, and molasses. Medium palate. Taste is molasses, caramel, and a touch of coffee. Glad to see Gordon Biersch hit a good one with this.

Clear walnut brown with a thin brown head. Grassy, herbal hop aroma that is surprising in the context of its appearance. Rather thin in the malt department, low chocolate, with a dominant grassy hop character and a dry finish. Kind of weird actually.
