Notes of coffee and malt. Pours black with a thin laced head. Huge coffee taste and a smooth dry finish. This is a poetry good stout.

Black, with a thin but dense brown head. Smells like coffee, hickory, and pine. Thinner bodied, but not so thin that it’s a problem. Nicely dry and woody, with more coffee and piney flavors. Sampled at Knoxville location.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2014 Draft pint many times. Pitch black with a lasting ring of bubbles. Nose is char, milk chocolate, caramel and light resiny herb. Taste is the same as the aroma promises. Medium-heavy body is drinkably watery and has light carbonation. This was actually the first beer I had with vanilla ice cream as a "beer float", about 20 years ago and it still makes my innards flutter with anticipation, or something else. This is definitely the brewery’s best beer in their regular lineup.

Pint at brewpub. Dark nitro pour. Nice roasty aroma with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, creamy sweetness, and dryness. Creamy palate from the nitro. Full flavor with more coffee and dark chocolate.pleasantly bittersweet with light vanilla notes amid the roastier flavors.

A rich coffee aroma. Creamy head. Good black color. Coffee overpowers an initial creamy chocolate mouthfeel, but this is the best one here. A good creaminess throughout. Some hops at the very end.

On tap at the Blackhorse Pub & Brewey- The color is black with a nice full head. The smell a bit like chocolate and a hint of coffee. The taste was quite enjoyable mix of chocolate and roast coffee. The feel was of medium body and light carbonation and went down easy. Very tasty and satisfying.

Appearance: Dark brown, near black body with a persisting, tan-colored head.
Smell: Aroma smelling of roasted and chocolate malts marked by a secondary, inappropriate note of diacetyl. Even with the buttery diacetyl, it smells a-ok.
Taste: Lightly sweet, malty tastes of chocolate and roasty, though not particularly bold coffee. As my dear, darling friend Fifi says, "it’s a bit mocha-ish." Good call, Feefers. Light touch of blackened grains are the source of the nominal bitterness present. Blackhorse is continually consistent in one facet -- each beer has some degree of buttery diacetyl present. Thankfully, it’s relatively light when set against the dark malt character and makes for a hint of Butterfingers. Roasty, Butterfinger-y finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: An above-average, acceptable stout (even with the diacetyl).
