Keg at Maltings, York. It pours near black with a thick tan head. The nose is coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, earth and a touch of cabbage. The taste is rich roasted malt, coffee, earth, burnt notes, moderate bitterness and a touch of cocoa with a dry, bitter finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Flavoursome. A tasty stout indeed.

Keg, poured a deep black with a thick tan head. Aroma of roast malt and chocolate. Medium body, flavour as the aroma with some dark fruits in there too. Seemed a bit watery for the strength/style, but not bad.

[keg at the Hanging Bat, Edinburgh] Pours deep, murky black with pretty much zero head. The aroma is coffee and some rum sweetness. On the taste – coffee dominates, there’s some wood in there, and then moderate alcohol burn. Unfortunately it’s totally flat and lifeless, and tastes overwhelmingly of cold coffee, with the faint woodiness, it’s like the washings from an old cask. There’s a good beer in there somewhere, but unfortunately I wasn’t finding it [28012013]

keg at the bat ... deep black ... thin tan lacing ... big rich chocolate malts ... solid roast ... little blackcurrant nose ...too cold ... real shame ... little fizz up front but then dies flat which really doesnt do the beer any favours... little thin ... huge chocolate ... dark chocolate ... dark fruits roast .. bit still crackin 4.1 ...
