A really good Cascadian Dark Ale (I refuse to say BIPA, makes no sense) from the lads in Cork.

Lively black with garnet tinges + a lumpy cap of taupe foam. Lovely orange rind and floral nose with some tar underneath - real hop freshness.
Black grape, coffee + brown sugar up front, then grapefruit oil, resin, and green herbal finish.
Kola nut + Curacao finish and long pine sap linger.
Fizzy, good chew, surprisingly light.
Booming hops - Kinsale’s 2nd release lives up to the Citra bomb that is KPA. There’s some must/dank that builds, hinting at big Citra doses in this, too. Especially flavor-packed considering the ABV. Maybe a bit too carbed, but it never cloys. This is also 3 weeks out from bottling (Jan/15/’14 BBD) so can’t say how it would hold up.

Bottle. Clean black with a thin head. Aroma is fruity roast. Flavor is light dry burnt malt with a very light fruity hop middle, long dry burnt base. Lovely balance, nicest black IPA I have tasted so far.

Pint at bull and Castle. Pours black with Creamy wight head. Looks like a stout but once the whiff you knew it was an ipa. Aroma was great. Really fresh ipa. Pine, grass, spruce citrus nose. Felt like being in a meadow. Nose flowed into flavours with nice sweetness and the big bitter finish. Really bitter with nice body. Good beer.

Keg at The Folkhouse, Kinsale, on a cold halloween night by the fire. Pours a pitch black with a short tan head, and very nice lacing. Aroma is an interesting blend of espresso, tobacco, citrus and hedgerow. Taste is medium sharp bitterness with a smoother coffee aftertaste. A little light and only a lightly burnt aftertaste that’s fairly short-lived. I felt a little disappointed by the finish of this, possibly because I had such high expectations of it, but on reflection, it is actually a great beer, and a good take on the style. The early signs are that Blacks are going to be making some seriously good beer for some time to come.
