Bottle, amber-gold, peppery hoppy nose with touches of dry grass and grapefruit, medium bodied with a a drying bitterness over juicy golden malt. Clean and crisp, with a long very dry grapefruit bitter finish. Very fine APA.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Drinkstore
Golden, clear, big frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of citrus zest, grapefruit zest, lots of citrus hops, sweet pale malts background
Taste of bitter zest hops, citrus zest, some grassy hops, plenty of hops in this, soft sweet pale malt background, not as fruity as aroma
Palate - soft carb, bitter zest palate, light sweet malt background. Finish as main flavour, long lingering considerably bitter zest
Overall - Decent Pale Ale, but taste not quite as good as the excellent aroma, less fruity than expected

Different label, same abv, Pours a clear amber into the pint glass, good sized white head that was gone fairly quick, no lacing. Lovely juicy and chewy hop aroma such as Sierra Nevada PA. Taste was slightly lacking in character and body, but still very nice session ale, flavors are not hard hitting but are there and are very balanced and appetizing.

Bright gold with a fast-fading collar of white.
Big musty grapefruit nose with some shortbread underneath.
Bready malts donít get a look in before huge tart citrus, flower nectar, and sour papaya hops notes kick in.
Fruity finish and powdery bitter linger.
Light, crisp, a bit of oil.
The first Irish craft pale that doesnít try to make everyone happy - and itís high time for that. Ruthlessly bitter display of Citra that hits way harder than youíd expect for 5%. A bit thin - donít know how long you could stay on this before it torched your taste buds - but overall more of a hop bomb than 90% of Irish beers.

Had this as alltech beer convention and in bottle. Bottle seems worse with the hops not lasting leaving a sugary nose. Body is good and good hit of bitterness on finish. Am rating bottle. Will Re rate as I think this beer is nicer on tap.

330ml bottle from The Wine Centre, Kilkenny. Nice golden hazy colour, thin head disappears and slight lacing. Surprisingly fresh fruity aromas; melon, floral. Beautiful well balanced floral, fruity taste with reasonable carbonation and a long lasting finish. Iím very impressed with this first from Blacks, one of the best pale ales Iíve had.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at Porterhouse Cork. Pours a very hazy golden Orange, with a short foamy head. Nice lacing. Aroma is very fruity and very floral - full of citrus, tropical fruits, light summer berries and light grassiness. Very enticing. The taste is very well rounded, with light sweetness and medium bitterness giving way to the slightest of sour hints. Really tasty, again quite fruity. Finish is refreshingly level carbonation with a good bitter aftertaste. A real thirst-quencher, with real flavour and real bite. Comfortably the best Irish pale ale on the market. Remarkable start from Blacks.
