COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A turbid brew, the Hefeweizen has a very characteristic flavour that is produced by the interplay between the specialty yeast and the flavour contributions from the large portion of wheat in the brew’s grain bill. The flavours and aromatics are described as clove, banana, phenolic, sour, spicy and even bubblegum like. Because of the complexity of the yeast flavour, this beer is only mildly hopped.

The soft banana doesn’t stand out too much in the taste but softens the cloves. Colour is similar to their Kolsch just hazy. The short head held its form and left some lacing. Not a standout but an easy session wheat beer that I found better than their Kolsch.

On draught at the brewery.
Produced up a pastelly, yellow straw, opaque, with a plume of well held snow-white foam atop. Faultless in appearance. Highly phenolic nose; cloves, rough, woody spice, band-aids, amongst grainy wheat notes and a drizzle of lemon juice. Light bodied and sprightly on the tongue. Big, bold phenolic notes bite in, it’s very well spiced, yields a touch of camphor and heavy clove. Sour wheat base with more sour citrus and zest. Finish shows a linger of bubblegum and underripe strawberry. Amazingly far from puckering, it does get the taste buds attention. Soft, creamy head plays into the mouthfeel as the carbonation wanes. Very refreshing stuff. Strange one, but hey, it works.
