grat (433), ST. Louis, Missouri, USA Apr 28, 2006 Cask at brewery. Ohh what a beuatiful beer this thing was. So idyllic. Golden beer. Fat and rocky head that was inches thick. Nose was at first impenetrable. Emerges. Burning hops. aroma is all hops, no grains. Slight tarriness in the hops, rounded cask smells. Maybe a little bit of citrus and crackers from the malts, nothing too serious. Flavors explode. Dazzling velvety carbonation...maybe I just haven’t had a cask ale in a while but hot damn the carbonation on this thing was otherworldly. Velvet swirls, like soft cotton inside the mouth. Flavors are all abitter. Crisp clean malt profile. Almost unremarkable. Paper thin malts, slight tangy lemon-like sweetness. Good beer
NicerInPerson (337), North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Nov 28, 2007 The aroma was low citrus with light caramel and moderate fruity esters. The aroma was also lightly grainy. The beer arrived clear amber with a low white persistent head which laced the glass. The flavor was light with fairly strong citrus flavor and moderate bittering. The balance of hops and malt was very well done. The finish was dry with lasting citrus flavor into the aftertaste. The body was medium with moderate carbonation and a light creamy texture on the palate. All in all a darn nice APA. Pint at Blackstones. arjoseph (558), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 9, 2007 On tap, brewpub. Hazy amber with dusting. Pretty standard. The hop profile is maybe a little bit more defined than Yazoo Pale Ale, but I don’t think it’s as tasty. Fruity and citrusy up front, but not in a blossoming or robust way, with a little bit of floweriness too. Malts are crackerish, but also DME, especially in the beginning of the finish, which certainly detracts. Actually, as I drink it more, I notice more and more the unintegrated sugars detracting from the freshness of the hops. That being said, the hops add a nice quick bitterness on the end, and their floral quality over the malts is very nice. Foxbush (358), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 5, 2007 This was enjoyed in the Findleys bar at Opryland in Nashville, TN. I hope I have the correct Pale Ale. It was a good looking beer with a white head and golden color. It was a mild pale ale; not the bitterness that is more common. It just not much of a Pale Ale. If I have the wrong pale ale, I will correct. SubstanceT (1087), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 20, 2007 Rating 1059, On tap at the brewery in Nashville TN. Clear bronze with a thin long lasting white rim of a head. Nose is medium hops with some grapefruit. Taste is hoppy bitter then to grains with some alcohol. Bitter but not overly. Good. NachlamSie (1418), Tennessee, USA May 29, 2007 Sampled from a 1 day old growler brought into town by my buddy. Pours a copper hue with a nice, small white head. The lacing is pretty sticky when I give it a swirl. This has a very good aroma for an APA, it has the components I usually look for in the style: pine, citrus, flowers, crisp malty sweetness. The body is pretty light, I think it nails the expected palate for what it is. Nice lightly sticky finish that dries out my palate a bit with residual pine sap flavors here. It’s a very crisp, well balanced brew. I’d be more impressed by a hoppier APA, but that’s just nitpicking. This one is obviously meant to be a light, thirst quencher that has commendable flavor and it does that very well. Everything here is very clean and crisp with enough bitterness to keep things interesting. I think this is a perfect summertime session brew.
