COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maibock is a recent development. For centuries German breweries have made bock beers, which are strong, dark beers with great smoothness and depth of flavor. Maibock was first brewed as a special seasonal beer, to celebrate the arrival of spring. Using their new ability to make light-colored beers, the brewmasters of Bavaria created a blond counterpart to the original Bock. Our version is made to the standards of the German purity law, and fermented using an authentic Bavarian strain of lager yeast. (O.G. - 1.064 IBUs-29)

Tap. O.k., skip visuals for a minute, this smells like my mom. Seriously. The heavy perfume she would wear when I was a kid, the smell of Winston’s smoked throughout the day, the smell of sweat and defiance she had getting back from a shift at whatever crap job she worked to support 4 of us, all that was brought to mind. This has that perfumy indignant thing working. Orange peel and light cherry cough drop flavor. This has a slight amber edge to the pour. There is more than a little cherry here. A bit sticky, maybe the best maibock I’ve had, I’d have to check on that. The thickness makes it hard to discern, but damn, this has a nice finish like sugar daddy with warm pretzel, and a warm muffin note too. Ap-4 ar-10 tas-7 pal-3 ov-17

From a sampler: Pours a murky gold color with a medium white head and thin lacing. Light and sweet aroma. Well rounded and richer than it looks, with flavors of caramel, malt and honey. Chewy yet smooth with a nice finish. Very easy to drink and a good seasonal.

Growler from Blackstone. I poured this beer, walked away for 10 minutes and came back to a glass with an amazing spider-web design left by the head. The aroma is honey, wheat, apricot, cherry, and I could tell there would be roast in the taste. Strong flavor of roast caramel and some citrus. Pretty good overall, not a good session beer though.

Pours a foggy gold with a medium head and thin lacing. Aroma and flavor are malty and spicey with an underlying sweetness. An enjoyable beer.

Noogfest High 5. Sample from a growler thanks to Butters. Golden orange, white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, fruits, toffee. Taste is the same, sweet fruits and toffee.

Daft at Restaurant. Pale color in the glass with a white head that left great lacing. Light citrus in the aroma. The flavor found spices and lemon with a grainy aftertaste. Medium body, creamy texture, and a hint of bitterness throughout. Not bad!

Pours a clear golden-orange body with a lacing off-white to beige head. Smells of bubblegum and little banana. Flavor is sweet corn and cream. Finish is somewhat sweet with a faint hoppiness.

On draft at Woody’s Smokes and Brews. Pours a very clear dark gold with fair near white head. Very faint banana notes and honey. Flavors of sweet vanilla, corn, DMS, and some alcohol heat in the nose and tail. Very slight grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Pretty much spot on for BJCP heller bock style. But I didn’t personally care for it all that much.

On tap into a 10 oz. ale glass. Lemon zest and yeast in the nose with some light bread. Clear gold yellow in the glass with a mostly diminishing medium sized white head; oily and spotty lacing. Smooth, medium to full bodied. Tastes of rye bread, honey sweetness, and pistachio strong in the finish. Spicy and noble hops; a bit mealy with a bit of DME on the finish too. Late astringency mars the mouthfeel. I found this beer to be bland and weak in the flavor for the amount of body this has. It ended up syrupy in texture; I’ve had thicker beers that felt lighter because they balanced their feel with their flavor and ingredient palate. On reflection, I should have known how this beer would play in my mouth watching the slow carbonation struggle up through the middle of the glass in a clear beer that was lighter in color than I expected. A disappointment overall.

5 hour hold growler brought back by my buddy Erik. Pours a dark gold with a decent white head. The nose is pretty sugary with some corn, crisp hops, and pears. This is a very sweet lager up front and in the sticky finish. There are slightly rosy notes along with wood, corn husks, and paper. I’m not a huge "light-colored lager" fan in the first place and I found this one to be a bit heavy on the sucrose flavor.
