Tap @ brewery. Transparent and magnifying ruby brown in color with a creamy grey sheet spanning the top for the head. Mild amaretto sweetness protrudes toward the nose, along with cherry toffee, crushed crystal malt and a tiny bit of shell less pecans dipped in cocoa butter. Wholesome, sweet malt complex turns over flavors akin to strawberry caramel nips. Sugary brown bread supported by a honeyed maple current, and some buttery pecans with cream-accented traits. A smidgeon of oiliness registers at the tongue’s tip. Glossy palate coating with a slight bitter crevice notched down the center of the tongue, automatically pressing it to the roof of the mouth. Sugar-coated bran flakes comprise the finish, reaffirming its status as a healthy contender. Well done.

12 oz bottle obtained in trade with illinismitty, thanks! Cellar temperature tasting in an Allagash stem glass. It pours a very dark, clear walnut-brown with a lasting little finger of off-white head....light toasted nut aroma, almonds and hazelnuts, lightly roasted grain and some vanilla....moderately sweet, slightly grapy front turns a bit sour at midpalate, with a fair bit of roast and oily nuttiness coming in near the finish, which is a tad astringent and drier than usual....moderate carbonation, fairly dry and mineralic, somewhat watery palate....a nice brown ale, nothing spectacular but with no huge problems, either.

Aroma is hay/grass and grains. Comes across lagery smelling. Reddish brown with a diminuitive pinky thick tan head. Fore is nutty, a tinge tobacco-like with peanutskins and sweeter malts. Fairly low intensity flavor gives it a steeped tea bag feel flavor wise. Not at all bad tasting just very thin.

12 oz bottle, via illinismitty. Pours a dark brown with a small white head that fades to a thin covering. Grainy malt aroma with hints of chocolate and a light nuttiness. Lightly nutty and toasted malt flavor. Finish has some roasted malt and light bitterness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A little thin and watery on the finish. Your average Brown Ale, never an exciting style but this one is better than some.

Nice nutty aroma along with some coffee roast. Roasted malt stood out in this beer. Brown with a red hue and tan head. Body was little thin but still had a mix of roasted malts and hop bitterness. Decent brew.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2006 Another Beer_Hawk TN hookup! Pours red/brown, decent white head. Nutty, burnt caramel nose. Flavor is nice, slightly sweet roasty caramel. Not too complex, and a slightly sticky finish. but a nice offering.

Thanks to beer_hawk for this one. Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of nuts, some coffee and mellowing chocolate. Taste is roasty and sweet with some chocolate and a bit of a peppery bite. Finishes slightly bitter. Another good one from these guys.

Fantastic beer from home I’ll say. Tastes best from the brewery - but sold even Kroger here. Good color, no real head. Fun to support the locales when it tastes good too.

I live in Nashville. I like Blackstone. Their beers are good simple beers that pair nicely with food. Nothing complex, but great simple session brews. Boy was I excited when they were bottling their beers. First problem is that they are not bottling the best house brews, the porter and the red springs ale. Second problem, the beer is not nearly as good as the beer at the brewery. My bottle poured reddish brown. Quickly diminishing head and no lacing. Weak aroma, but slight fruit and malt notes. Flavor is decent, which is a balance of mild hops , toasted malt and nuts, and caramel. Finish on the bottled beer is its weakness. It could be a little cleaner. It is much better on tap at the brewpub.
