Excellent sweet brown ale. Maple brown color and leaves some lacing on the glass. Finish is sweet syrup and a hint of dry fruit at the finish. Very drinkable brown ale a winner in my book

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle, best by end of Nov 2011. Served at 45F.
Pours clear copper brown with a small light beige head that leaves a few spots of lacing and recedes to a wispy cap.
Aroma features some mild nuts, toffee, but also some unfortunate cardboard and maybe slightly metallic. Moderate strength but does get a little better as it warms.
Flavor is better than the aroma and has some caramel, toffee, brown sugar, nuts, some herbal hops, fair sweetness mild bitterness, little alcohol.
Mouthfeel is light/medium bodied with strong carbonation.
Average Brown Ale, not terribly impressed overall.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted on 9/8/11 from a 12oz bottle purchased at Whole Foods Green Hills. Pours a clear, but very dark ruby-brown with a thick beige head that slowly recedes to uneven lace, leaving some thick lace along the inside of the glass. The nose features dusty chocolate malt along with a hint of raw almonds and hazelnuts, and a bit of herbal green hops. The flavor is more or less the same, with the dusty chocolate malts up front, moving to the raw almond and hazelnut, and finishing with a very pronounced, very herbal, lightly bitter hops. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long chocolate malt and lightly bitter herbal hops finish.

Really bad. Going to have to try thus again in case it is a bad bottle. Hardly any lacing, like greasy dish water. Tastes bitter and flat. Almost undrinkable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rich, deep amber mahogany body with thin ring of head. Appreciable woody nut nose with decent maltiness. This one flaunts a pleasantly nutty flavor supported by a solid malt backbone. A quite sessionable nut brown ale--an excellent example of the style.

Sampled this one at the brewpub for comparison sake to the Bad Leroy Brown. It was a bit on the sweet side for tastes, but seems to be very much in line with the typical Nut Brown. I wish this would have been on cask as I think it would be better. It got better as it warmed up. The chocolate and nut flavors/aroma came out more. I can see how this is very popular with the masses.

Probably the darkest nut brown I have seen- this guys is holding an off-white head that is quite fluffy and has a great aroma of dry roasted almonds and toffee. Flavor is a great assortment of roasted nuts, toffee, and caramel. Very drinkable, and very dry. On Tap at the brewpub.
