Transferred from old tasting notes. Tasted on tap at brewpub, Nashville, Tennessee, USA in standard pint glass. Poured an opaque, very dark brown, almost black color with creamy, full, beige head with good retention and even a little lace. Flavors and aromas characteristic of a good oatmeal stoat: malty, bready, caramelly, toasty, roasty, with balanced bitterness and hints of coffee, chocolate and dried dark fruit. Very good.

Stout black, tan head. Aroma is creamy, roasty. Taste is chocolate, roasty, nice body.

Backlog from 12/09. Tap. Aroma all about chocolate with touches of dark grain. Flavor remains all about the chocolate, lightly milky but still plenty of cacao goodness. Straightforward but very tasty.

Very dark brown with reddish highlights and decent brown head. Sweet nose. Malty, roasty flavors. Medium body. Reminded me of a solid effort...for a homebrewer

on tap-pours a tan head that bubbles and mahogany color. Aroma is dark malt-cocoa/nutty and some fruit, slight acidic. Taste is dark malt-cocoa, some fruit, some earthy hop bite. Medium body.

tap,black with tan creamy head,roasted maltnose,coffe bitterness,slight creamy mouthfeel,rather hoppy bitter finish,not really liking this one.

Had this at the Beer Seller. Decent stout, but pretty forgettable. Worth a try but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

A dark almost black pour with an off white head that stays forever. A toasted malt flavor. A nice taste that starts sweet and goes dry qucikly. A light bitter finish.A decent mouthfeel but just a tad watery with very good carbonatioin that makes for a smooth palate. Not a bad brewpub beer.

On cask at the brewpub; pint glass. Poured with a medium fluffy ecru head that lent a creamy texture to the body, mostly lasting. Lacing was meager, "racing" was too. This would make a pleasant session stout because of its simplicity; that same simplicity keeps it from impressing me that much. Dark brown/black in the glass with a bit of light shining through. Aroma of bread dough and a hint of molasses and faint overall. Sweetness of powdered sugar and cake balanced by the oatmeal mustiness, which was more of a counterpoint than a feature (which, personally, I didn’t mind, as I don’t like a dominant oatmeal flavor in my beers). The roasted malts are very understated and, along with a very slight caramel undertone, only serve to round out the straight-forward milk-chocolate base flavor. Smooth and creamy; medium bodied. This is a stout that women would like.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2006 Draft at the brewpub. Pours black, with a very small foamy head. Faint aroma chocolate, molasses, and dark roasted malt. Flavor is smooth, with hints of maple, chocolate, oats. I did not personally care for the finish. Something was off, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. It was bitter, yeasty, and peppery This seemed pretty tame overall, probably to appeal to the casual beer drinker. Still a decent brew, but not as good as some of their other beers, especially the porter.
