This traditional beer style has enjoyed a revival in the past 15 years. Like all stouts, it features the coffee-like taste of roasted barley; what distinguishes oatmeal stout is the body and smoothness of oats combined with the sweetness of caramel malt. This batch is bittered with Northern Brewer hops, an English variety well suited to this style. As always it is unfiltered. (O.G. - 1.060, IBU's - 27)

a little light and watery, for any type of stout, but still enjoyable. Coffee notes on the nose, roasted barley, no hops. Tastes nice, roasty light coffee, but there just isnít enough there, body or flavors. Average beer that, with some tweaks, could be awesome.

Keg at the brewpub, Nashville, 15/02/15. Light black with a decent tan covering that retains well. Nose is chocolate, light roast, toffee, charr, hint of berry fruit. Taste comprises toffee, cocoa powder, dark fruit rinds, light spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok stout.

Appearance is small brown head with deep brown color. Aroma is on the sweet side. Taste is a creamy mix of chocolate and coffee, but not strong. Overall itís my style, but not among the best.

12oz bottle. Black pour with a small of amount of cream head clinging to the glass. Aroma is very attractive blend of mild coffee and chocolate. Nice full body and flavors that meld perfectly together. This style isnít for thrill-seekers, but the brewer nailed it. Really tasty and incredibly easy to drink. I was barely able to consider the rating before finishing off the whole glass.

Christmas gift six pack from the Allenís. Classic dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Light aroma of malt and milk chocolate. Silky mouthfeel from the oats. A little coffee in the flavor. Fine.

It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of chocolate, molasses and dark roasted malts. The taste was smooth with hints of maple, chocolate and oats.

Aroma is roasted and a little sweet. Taste is sweeter than I expected but pretty balanced with that oatmeal creaminess.

12 oz. Opaque ebony with a lasting quarter inch of cream. Aroma of graham cracker, coffee, dark chocolate and toasted marshmallow. Tastes of dark chocolate, coffee grounds, lactose, tart berry. Near-medium body is a bit sweet, but has a nice roast for balance and light-medium carbonation.

Blac, with no head, which is kind of a warning sign. Smells like burnt coffee, and a little ashy. Flavor is more scorched coffee and toasty. Thin bodied.
