12 oz bottle to pint glass. Pours nearly black with a few amber edges, tan head which laces nicely. I get chocolate and some bready malt, maybe a little dark fruit, a fig. Taste is very balanced, sweet molasses, bread, a little coffee and chocolate, but blended well. Has a very slight dry bitter finish that complements it quite nicely. Silky mouthfeel. A very nice beer from Blackstone.

Tasted on 9/10/11 from a 12oz bottle purchased at Whole Foods Green Hills. Pours an extremely dark, opaque, mahogany-amber with a thick tan head that slowly recedes to rocky lace, leaving a bit of residue along the inside of the glass. The nose is darkly roasted coffee and chocolate, with some lightly sweet molasses, fig, and dark date, and some darker bread malt notes as well. The flavor is very dry, with darkly roasted coffee, dark chocolate, darkly toasted bread, and a bit of bitterness, with the fruity notes absent. The body is medium with lively carbonation and a long roasted coffee and lightly bitter dark chocolate finish.

Draft. Pours dark brown with a medium-sized light tan head. Aroma and flavor are rich malt, fair amount of chocolate, slightly lactic taste. Really delicious; quite drinkable as well. This would be one of my go-to beers if I lived in Nashville. Phooey.

On tap @ Blackstone Restaurant & Brewery. A deep brown/black pour with a medium sustained head and ample lacing. Toasted malts in the aroma with a very slight smokiness and a touch of cocoa and coffee. Taste is smooth with the toasted malts up front followed by a slight semi-sweet chocolate, a pinch of java, and again a slight smokiness. Excellent rich porter. Will revisit.

Draft. Deep brown body with a frothy, beige head. Pleasant aroma of roasted malts, caramel and floral hops. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, smooth turning watery texture and a lively carbonation. Slight metallic taste from the roast, but a pleasant roasted coffee bitterness in the aftertaste along with some lingering caramel notes. Smooth and easy drinking.

Deep melanoidin red-amber brew with decent head. Strong malt nose accented with brown malt. Sweet and dry roast malt flavor with roast candi finish. OVerall, spot on for the olde Britt style.

On tap at Blackstone brewpub. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, chocolate, light coffee and a hint of fruit. Taste pretty much in line with the aroma with mild roasted malt astringency on the finish. Mouth feel thicker than average for a porter, not bad.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2010 Glowing deep red at the edges yet totally opaque-persistent frothy head lacing the glass. Aroma of caramel, coffee, roasted malt. This is by far the smoothest beer i have ever had. It slides down your throat like an oyster. It’s like a magical way of delivering flavor to your mouth without drinking anything. So silky. flavor is roasted nuts, caramel, and toasted dark malt. On Tap at the brewpub.
