On Tap at Blackstone Brewery, Nashville, TN, 4.5.16. Clear dark red. Malt, sweet aroma, hints of roastiness, hints of chocolate syrup. Roasty bitterness and a little sweet in the mouth. Rather light-bodied, soft fizz, long, sweet and roasty aroma.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 ounce bottle poured into a snifter. The beer is a dark brown with a beige head of foam that dissipates quickly. The aroma has notes of roast, leather, and vanilla. The taste has a good bit of sweetness to it. Balanced a bit by the roast, but still leaning toward sweet pretty heavily. Medium body and medium carbonation.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
January 4th, 2014 - Also hailing from the South (and generously donated by a friend in TN) comes Blackstone’s Brewing St. Charles Porter, a calm, brown brew with little head, and all the scent of a generic winter warmer: malty with a touch of grape. The palate is flat with a decent flavor, finishing like Guinness, and debuting with some more of that grape sugar. But it’s nothing exceptional, and not unlike a lot of brown sweet beers you’ll find crowding shelves these days.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 27, 2016 One 12 oz bottle from TN with no BB date notched on the label despite the presence of notch-date marks. Revised with another bottle in June 2016 with a BB date of July 2016. Served in a Belgian snifter.
Pours light for style, with a clear red-brown body. The body remains light for style and clear even after I shake the few drops of sediment out of the bottle. There’s a decent head but it soon dies to a partial coat and thin ring. As the color suggests, this has less very dark roasted malts than many porters; nonetheless, both the aroma and flavor feature medium and medium-dark malts. The flavor is faintly bitter overall but the aroma is sweet.
Feel: medium-light body and medium carbonation.
Overall: a gentle, mild, easy drinking porter.

12 ounce bottle thanks to John. Thin boy and a bit of chocolate. Too thin for my taste.
