COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name translates from Flemish to mean "hidden or concealed", because this style of beer is brewed by the monks of Belgium for their own consumption, and is generally not available outside the monastary walls. While the Trappist monastaries are world renowned for their strong beers, the beer they brew for themselves is more modest in alcohol, while still retaining the complexity of their brethren. Our "cloister beer" is deep gold in color, with a fruity, earthy aroma and a spicy dry finish. While the Belgian Pale Ale malt and generous amounts of Styrian Goldings hops contribute plenty of flavor, much of the complexity is derived from the yeast. (O.G. - 1.058, IBU’s - 34)

Draft at brewpub. An orange-amber in the glass with a creamy white head that somewhat lasts and leaves big chunky lacing. A sweet aroma of fruits. The flavor found orange, lemon, clove, and a hint of wheat. Light body and an orange aftertaste. Decent!

On tap at the brew pub. A dark golden pour with a guey lacing. A slightly bitter bite that is not bad at all. A good flavor of slightly sweet malt. Slightly agressive carbonation.

Draft at brewpub. Thanks to Decaturstevo for picking up the tab on this one. Pours deep straw golden with a white head. Nice fruity and perfumy aroma, with some hay in the background. Flavor is grassy, fruity, with notes of bread. Mild bitter and spicy finish, along with some dryness. Interesting beer, but it does not scream authentic belgian to me. Perhaps the yeast strain is house or american? Oh well, I enjoyed the beer.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours golden straw, hay, almost a copper sunset, with a foamy white head and spotty lacing. Banana and light grassy malt, earthy, straw and yeast (dough) aroma. Bitter hop and astringent lightly acidic banana yeast flavor, light creamy malt finish. Light to medium bodied, fizzy and spicy palate.

draught. Verdekt is an orange-gold color with a thin white head. The aroma has a little orange peel, nutmeg, and other thin spices. This brew hints well at an abbey style with some light cloves, mild fruits, and a drier finish. This is a little thin, but definitely drinkable.
