A rich, satisfying coal-black porter - it has a pronounced liquorice taste on the palate derived from a generous infusion of liquorice root in the copper.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - close to opaque black with a thin crema head. Nose - toffee, light nuts, something very earthy too. Taste - toffee and nuts. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a dry balanced finish. Overall - not unpleasant. Lacking the liquorice though.

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise - London. Pours dark brown with little hed. Baking cocoa and dirt in the nose. Light sweet flavor with pleasant, dry cocoa and ash. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Lightly dry to finish, moderate burnt sugars, light roast, burnt marshmallows and baking cocoa. Decent.

Cask at GBBF 2011, Day 2. Pours dark brown with a bubbly, off-white head. Chocolate and chalk roast malt nose. Some sharp coffee in the flavor, medium sweetness, bit of sweet mocha. Medium in body with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, dark sugar, mild roast. Lingering mocha, which is quite, quite good.

Cask conditioned handpump Wig & Pen Northampton 04/12/12. A black beer with an off-white head and lace. Roasty coffee throughout with what I thought to be whiskey barrel tendencies. Smooth and tasty with late bitterness. Boozy and very good indeed.

500ml bottle from a brewery just up the road from me. Lively pour that results in a large head atop a dark brown base. Aroma of smoke and treacle. Roasted taste, medium bodied, slightly oily on the tongue with some fizz from the carbonation. Definitely a bit of a liquorice vibe too. Decent stuff, lacking a bit in the complexity stakes though.

Cask at GBBF 2011. Black color. Plenty of coffee in aroma. Roasty coffee flavor with with nuts and toffee in the background. Nice dark fruity coffee character which brings arabica espresso to mind. Licorice is restrainden, which is good.
