Beerlando (1458), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 1, 2008 Draft at Eola Wine Company. Tap handle said Blanche de Bruxelles. The pour yields a cloudy, pale yellow colored body with a creamy, snow white head. The foam displays good retention, sticking around fr ages and leaving large flares and spots of lace on the glass. Aromas are sweet for a witbier, notes of candy and citrus showing atop the requisite pale wheat. Flavors follow suit, mild wheat grains accompanied by lemon and orange rinds and light candy sugar. A glimmer of floral hopping shows on the finish. Light to medium bodied and finely carbonated, the swallow is easy going, but perhaps a touch too sweet for the style. It’s a decent enough witbier, but there’s nothing overly special going on here. FriarHop (15), Brooklyn, Alabama, USA Nov 28, 2008 Bottled as Blanche de Bruxelles. Pours a cloudy yellow and develops the normal lacing for a wit. Aroma: stinky. Taste: fouled citrus, long lasting and muddled. halfonit (97), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Nov 21, 2008 Not my cup of brew. Has a very yellow color and hints of citrus to it. Tastes very citrus. It’s not really the type of style that I like. I can respect this style and those who like it, but this just isn’t for me. illidurit (489), Santa Cruz, California, USA Nov 21, 2008 Bottle from Cava Wine Bar in Capitola. Poured into a Witkap Pater goblet. Hazy white peach flesh color with an eggshell head that leaves some nice gobs of lace. Mild aroma, mainly grassy and zesty with some orange peel. Not a lot of coriander here oddly enough. Flavor is mealy wheat and some spiciness, grass and yeast. The flavors don’t really fit together quite right, like they’re out of proportion to each other. It’s not enough to really nail down and explain but it’s enough to easily tell that this is rather inferior to, say, St Bernardus’ witbier. Average palate. GodOfThunder (144), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 19, 2008 Pours a cloudy yellow with a white head and seemingly a lot of carbonation. Smell is of orange, wheat and slightly skunky. Luckly, the skunk doesn’t transfer over into the taste. The taste is solid for a wit. Not too strong, but still good. Overall, a good wit.
