COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There was a time when all dark beers had a smoky flavor. Grains were traditionally roasted over an open flame. Then technology took over. Blank Slate’s Smoked Porter pays homage to those early days. Unlike many traditional smoke beers which are smoked with Beechwood, Fume uses Cherrywood smoked malt which gives this Brown Porter a very refined smoke character with a unique flavor profile.

This is a killer porter. Well worth the trouble of finding the damn unmarked secret taproom

on-tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear dark maple amber, full head cover, dots of lace. Taste is caramel malt that adds a bit of wood and a wisp of smoke in the palate before turning a little bitter in the finish. It all works, but not as well as I’d like because everything tastes a little watered down. It becomes a thin version of a good beer. Drinkable, but little more.

On tap at BrewRiver Gastropub. Pours a clear dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of smoke, smoked meats, roasted malt. Flavor of smoked malt, light smoked meats, roasted malt. Not super smoked as some examples of the style but nonetheless a tasty smoked porter, easy to drink, light palate. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)

Draft at Jungle Jim’s: pours a nice dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of toast and smoke. Taste is sweet, smokey roastiness. Very easy to drink... This would’ve gone great with the smoked turkey I made for thanksgiving this year... Note to self.

Draft served in a pint glass at Rhinegeist. Guest taps! Pours a brownish color with amber highlights and a small beige head. Aroma of toasted, lightly smoked malts, tobacco, chocolate, and some coffee roast. The flavor leans earthier, with a more peaty smoke, and has notes of tobacco leaves, mellow spices, chocolate, and roast. Light-medium bodied, with an earthy, leafy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Smoke is subtle, and makes it an approachable take on the style.

Sample at The Ohio Taproom. Clear deep brown color with a medium foamy khaki head that recedes gradually. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt caramel and smoke. Light to medium body with flavors of smoked malt, caramel and earthy hops. The finish is smoky with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft. Pours brown in color with a small white head that quickly disappears. The aroma has mild roast, chocolate, smoke campfire, light cherry notes. The flavor has a nice mild to moderate smoke character, cherry wood, very light peat, some chocolate with a nice earthy bitterness to the finish.

On tap at Brewriver. Funny how the description says this is not a smoke bomb but is still smokier than other breweries’ attempts at a pure smoked beer. This is a brown porter, so the lighter body helps the complex cherrywood notes come through. Flavor is almost pure malt and smoke with notes of campfire, meat, toffee and earth. Finish is a little lactic. Faint metallic notes keep this from being a knockout, but it’s still a great beer.

On tap at Cock & Bull. Standard serving was a 20oz but I requested a 10oz. Clear dark brown / red color. Nice off-white head. Minimal loose lace. Milk chocolate sweet taste, that is a bit too much for me without that awesome chile kick that was in the Fumar version. Light carbonation, kind of creamy lighter to medium body. Decent porter, as it is
