4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft. This beer has an incredible pallet and a crazy complexity to it. I normally am not a fan of mushroons at all, but this beer blew me away.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft sample. The beer is a darker brown with a khaki head of foam. The aroma has a nice earthy, somewhat musty character. As I drink, I pick up on how much it actually reminds me of mushroom, without actually being a mushroom. It has that almost salty, umami quality that I love. Medium body and mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. This would be a great beer to cook with. Especially something like a french onion soup.

Poured a clear reddish amber with a small lasting creamy amber head. Aromas of cocoa, toffee, earthiness and light spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of cocoa, toffee, spice and light earthiness with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice brown ale with some additional funky flavors that I can only figure are from the mushrooms. The higher alcohols take this beer out of typical brown ale range but somehow it all works. Very nice.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Blank Slate Shroominous... Up until this beer, I was enjoying everything that I previously had from Blank Slate. I don’t mind some good innovation, but this particular beer is not good. Although it looks like a brown ale, it lacks depth of flavor, malt, and as a weird salty, soy sauce-like flavor. I don’t care for this at all. Draught (pint) at Gordo’s in Cincinnati, Ohio.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft samples at various places. Pours brown in color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have some toasted malt, mild chocolate notes, a lightly nutty character, some big earthy notes from the mushrooms no doubt with mild bitterness to the finish. Not your standard brown ale and for that I am thankful because this is quite good.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft to taster. Looks good; a fairly transparent amberish brown with thin head that falls somewhere between off-white and light beige. Smells of caramel malt with a touch of earthiness. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Solid beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at tapping party at A Taste Of Belgium on March 20, 2013. Dark brown hue, very large tan head , very firm sweet malty nose with a slight vinous character, fine bittersweet flavor--can’t quite pick up the mushrooms but Blank Slate head honcho Scott assured me they contribute to the flavor profile. Very well done brew and excellent for style.
