COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Obviously Hoppy – Definitively Blatant”

Hoppy… obviously. BLATANT INDIA PALE ALE (IPA) is reminiscent of the hop profiles of those beers brewed by our West Coast friends, but represents the enormous pride of our East Coast roots. Full of hops and a subtle cereal grain backbone, this definitively BLATANT brew will demand the attention of the senses: the aroma, the flavor, the finish. Don’t look any further, this is your new favorite. BE BLATANT!

Note: Formerly brewed at Hyland Orchard & Brewery. Now brewed at Opa Opa Brewing (Brewmaster’s Tavern) in Williamsburg, MA.

The honey malt and lemon from the hops really stand out. Crisp and refreshing, an enjoyable and easy to drink IPA with plenty of bitterness

This is for the double. Very malt forward in taste and smell, more so than I would have expected based on experience with the 1x IPA. The alcohol is there but covered by the malt. Long lingering hoppy bitterness. Okay, but not my style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not exactly the beer tasted, as the Double was not in the app. Medium gold, dense lace. Full body, smooth texture, intense but not extreme flavor, some heat but little carbonation, long palate. Bitter, malty. Good, probably better if I hadn't tasted it after the Dark Horse Safety Meeting, qhich overshadowed it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Rating #5540)

Pours with a full head and nice hop aroma. Then taste is very happy but not so much they overwhelm a good flavor.

Bomber into a glass. Pours a cloudy Orange, with yellow and vanilla clouds. Aroma is orange spice and peel, hoppy and citrus. Taste is mellow hops that explode in the aftertaste followed by dry and bitter citrus, grapefruit, melon, etc. Drinks bitter and light, a nice example of west coast IPA in the east. Fun and enjoyable.

My Bottom Line:
Grapefruit and sandy hop resins move atop supporting cereals in this comfy India Pale Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the hazy blond and its orange hues.
-This is a very nice brew even though it is not nearly as intense aromatically-speaking as the average ’new generation’ American IPA.
-The bitterness balances out the back end.
-Malt flavors are somewhat veiled.

On tap at Armsby Abbey.

Draught. Yellow with slight haze and great lace. Aroma is candy citrus, hops, light wheat, and something slightly off. Flavor is light grapefruit and bitter long end. Soft pithy feel. Not very satisfying after a notable West Coast IPA.

From tap @ Stodddard’s Fine Food & Ale, Boston (MA). Blond, hazy with an amber lining. Small head. Nose: modest, citrus but also something spicy. Taste: very bitter, lemon and dry. Aftertaste: dry, where bitterness dominates but not too agressive. Overall a nice IPA with first a surprising aftertaste, but an uncomplex dry and bitter feeling quickly takes over.

Sampled at Pioneer brewing. Pours golden with a lacy, white head. Aroma of lightly citrusy and floral hops plus a light caramel and pale maltiness. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not the best IPA.
