COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blatz beer is everything Val Blatz himself was - bold, determined, innovative, and new to the country. Blatz still retains its heritage of fine American beer made with German craftsmanship. Brewed with the finest six row barley our country can grow, Blatz marries old world Gumeiklekeit with new world creativity. Next time the barkeep asks what brand you want, ask for Milwaukee’s Finest Beer - Blatz!

Draft, at <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Places/ShowPlace.asp? Place, Lemont, IL. I have no history with Blatz in my underage drinking or impoverished student days, so this review comes with no baggage, except my surprise at finding it not only on tap, but finding a bar with an old Blatz sign out front. In a pint shaker ($2.25), it shows that familiar pale straw color under a thin macro head. But there’s a noticeable lager malt taste here. Some corn adjunct, but I didn’t find it distracting. And just enough bitterness for an uncomplicated finish. Probably never a great beer, probably not the same recipe for generations, but I wonder if, when it’s being contract-brewed, Miller doesn’t mess around trying to "modernize" it.

12 oz can pours pale with a small white head. Aroma of metal, grains and brief hops. Pretty much this is chill and swill. Stay away!

Lets say grandpa died. We were going through his possessions, and we found a can of this beer tucked away somewhere. For whatever reason we decide to crack it. We say, wow, the head is creamy, and it tastes old, like must, mothballs, mold, etc. Yeah, it’s cool to be old-school, but this is geriatric.

$2.50 For a Six-Pack. I Could Stop Right There :) Legendary Swill...One of the ’GREATS’ From Wisconsin. Musty Malt and Bad Corn Aroma and Flavor.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2009 Rerate (Finally!): Golden, fizzy. Chemically artificial adjuncty nose. Clean and bready flavor, toasty finish with a hint of indistinct hop at the finish. Very light and easy of course. Touch of fusel?

basically just a different swill.. drank it str8 from the can but I’m sure it was a clear light yellow like all the swill.. the smell was managable the taste dealable but far from anything I’d want to drink. Chalk this up to swill of the week at cans.

A tasty beer. It doesn’t taste all that great. But it tastes like something, though. It tastes like beer, damnit, good ole ’merican beer. Better than most cheapo lagers and some premiums too. It might be yellow and fizzy but at least it’s memorable.

Suprisingly I’ve never rated it, and just had it on tap again at the Crystal: Poured clear golden. Malty as hell with a huge white head. GRainy in every bit, not classy but grassy all the way through.

This was only a step above generic beer in the late 70’s. I’m glad I have not been desperate enough to buy this since I got out of school and got a job.
