Sampled during CBC 2013. Hazy golden pour with a nice off-white head. Lightly funky aroma, farmhouse yeast, spicy and estery, dry and fruity, some doughy raw grain character. Nice flavor, fruity and dry, a touch of spice and banana, lemon, light funk, doughy pale malts and wheat. Tasty.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain / bread crust), moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers, grass, lemon), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs, barnyard), with notes of pepper, sulfur (not skunk), gum, lemon peel, hay, minerals. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Exactly what a saison should be. Very much in the Saison Dupont mold, just as the regular Blaugies d’Epeautre is, but this is even more similar due to the higher hop presence (in both aroma and bitterness). Tremendous depth and balance, like Dupont itself in a good year. I hate the green bottles, though, really shameful for a hoppy beer like this...I found a few bottles in a back room of the store that were in the dark, but assuredly most samples of this beer will be badly skunked. As with Saison Dupont, I would generally not buy this at all unless I could get a full closed-box case or buy singles from a retailer that kept them in the dark (which is very rare). When will brewers stop using green glass for hoppy beers??? That gripe aside, this is pretty much a world-beater right here...somewhat geared to New World tastes, but without resorting to resinous hops or superfluous spices or high alcohol or anything else a modern saison doesn’t need. It’s gems like this that make trying all the other terrible-to-mediocre beers in the world worth it.

Bottle from Belgian e-shop Hazy very light color with big white head, lasting and lacing. Aroma is amazing and very intense. Very hoppy but very funky too, strange but amazing combination. Very spicy, tropical fruity, flowers and meadows. Flavor is hay, very hoppy-grassy, some general and indefinite funkiness, light tartness, light to moderate bitterness. Medium bodied for such a dry beer, light to medium carbonation. One of the best funky examples of a saison, hoppy, funky and amazing.

Sampled via bottle at WTWBA 2014. I brought this bottle to the festival. Purchased in Portland, Maine in June, 2014. Opaque yellow color and a substantial white head. Dry aroma, brett yeast, grass and flowers. Flavor has more yeast, capers, dry malt and dry, bitter hops. This is an excellent saison.

Une bière superbe avec un nez d’une rare fraîcheur et d’une incroyable complexité, des arômes de citron, de levures, d’épices, de houblon frais et une bouche digeste, équilibrée, harmonieuse. Un régal
