COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ale brewed with fig juice. A traditional style named for John Darby, preacher of temperance whose parishioners were oddly moved by a "soft drink" they insisted was just fig juice...

Poured from bottle to glass. Amber hue with off white head. Aroma is banana, figs, straw, caramel, raisins. Mouthfeel is lacking with a light body and soft carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with spicy following. Overall this has a lot of fig, but is lacking in mouthfeel and comes across a bit watery.

Pours golden and sightly cloudy with a white head. Smells of very light fruit. Tastes slightly sour with a hint of white grapes and figs.

Bottle from Berts Bierhuis Biltstraat, BB fin 2016, large sample, served in a tulip glass. Hazy golden color, medium off-white head. Aroma is quite weird. I was sipping this little bugger with a friend of mine and the first association I had was the smell of a swimming pool using lots of chlorine. No, he said, it is more like a budget shoe shop, so quite leathery. Then I thought of a little river in the Alp mountains, with its dusty aromas, stone, slight salty water, mud. But in the end, we agreed it smelled like the local wooden shoe seller in the middle of nowhere, the same middle of nowhere where we grew up. Did we smoke a lot? No, not really, just an Alaskan Smoked Porter, which was great. Anyway, I would describe the aroma as chlorine, salty, mud, hint of oak wood, leather. Slight grainy as well, hint of citrus perhaps, quite funky. Taste has a bit of bitterness, slight salty and some lactic sourness. Quite dry as well. Lots of aroma and flavor, and we did finish the bottle, but I doubt I will buy this again. Although, it was only 5,35 euro for a big bottle.

Draft at Edmunds Oast. Slightly hazy deep golden pour with a fluffy white head. Aroma of earthy yeast, citrus, grainy malts with hints of stone fruits and plums. Comes across the tongue with striking similarity. Refreshing and pretty solid beer.

Bottle @ tasting. Aroma is fruity yeast, fruity hops, some grainy notes. Flavour is thin watery malt, some hop, boring.

375 mL bottle at the Capital in Leuven. Clear golden-brown with a large bubbly head. Smooth, crisp and a little sour. Hoppy, farmyard aroma. Smooth drinking and tasty beer. Bitter with a light alcohol burn.

Amber color, with a fantastic yellow head. Restrained aromas of citrus peel, yeast, with herbal and sour hints. Smooth, slightly bitter beginning with subtle fruitiness, which then gets intensified due to a chewy sourness. Slightly stings the tongue, then dough yeast softens the fruit impression, opening up the palate for bready malts, adding a decent complexity and balance to the beer. Yeast stays visible till the end, reminding me almost of a Witbeer, which is only partly true, because vivid fruits still add a sour hint, assisted by high carbonation. A bit too watery, neither of the flavors is convicing on themselves, they do mix up well, but could use a little push to intensify the overall flavor.

JulienHuxley (3041) - Hilversum, NETHERLANDS - JUN 21, 2014
Bottle at DTE tasting. Hazy gold pour with white head. Aroma is really fruity, not sure about fig juice, but definitely fruity, malty, lots of honey, light herbal notes. Taste is grainy, fruity, lingering Belgian yeasty finish. Palate is sweet, a bit heavy with medium carbonation. Not my favorite Blaugies by far, their beers are usually so much drier and brighter than this. Too sweet.

Bottle shared at the DTE tasting thanks to Julienhuxley. Pours cloudy dark golden with a small off white head. Aroma is massive fig with a touch of chlorine and plasters. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Light medium bodied with light carbonation.

Bottle at the DTE tasting, Den Haag. Poured a hazy light amber with no head at all. The aroma is apple, yeast. The flavour is light sour with a watery bubbly dry earthy mineral veggie palate. Light bodied with lively carbonation, despite the fact there was no head.
