La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers’ family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

On tap at Eiderdown, Louisvile, KY. Aroma: Fruity, estery. Pear, slightly vinous. Apperance: dark gold pour, fine white head faded fast. Flavor: fruity (pear, apple), floral hops (hint), slight alcohol hint. Nicely bitter finish with a slight alcohol warmth. Palate: medium, slightly effervescent. OA: very tasty example of a saison. Quite refreshing and deceptively strong.

Bottle from Dranken Geers. Pours clear chestnut brown with a massive off white foam head. Nose is caramel, nutty, sugary meringue, dried apricot, banana, toffee, fig. Taste is bitter, toffee, banana, apricot, ripe fruit, bread, golden cereal grains. It’s a great beer.

On tap @ Ebenezers. Clear golden orange beer with a tall white head. Has much more of a sweet, raisin like profile than I would have expected. There’s some caramel, simple syrup, and orange marmalade. Lots of sweet fruits going on here. Not what I have usually associated with Blaugies...maybe old? Notes of citrus and grape on the finish. Ended up being disappointed by this.

Handsome bottle to globe. Pour is hazy amber with a large, long - lasting white head. Aroma is initially slightly funky but then gives way to hay, chamomile, light coriander, and a touch of red wine. Flavor is creamy and lightly spicy up front with a hint of fruity hop and citrus. Finish is fruity with light bubblegum and dry floral notes. More than classic saison with earthy, woody character and a fruity, floral hop presence.

Bottle. Etre Gourmet. Hazy, dark gold. Loads of lively, fast rising bubbles. Huge, frothy, lasting, off white head. Nose has granary bread. Soapy yeast. Baked apple. Taste is sweet, and bready, and yeasty. Soapy mouthfeel. Foamy carbonation. Some fruity esters on the finish. Dryish close. Ok.

750 ml caged and corked bottle, the cap on the caging is smudged but it looks like the printing on it says BL10115. I guess it’s a 2015 bottle? Served in a Unibroue tulip, the beer pours a hazy orange/amber color with a couple inch off-white head. Head retention is really good, and there’s a decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like clove, apple, earthiness, wheat/grainy malt and peppery spice. It tastes like yeasty earthiness, wheat/grainy malt, hay, peppery spice, apple, clove, and a bit of apricot. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s somewhat dry with a lot of carbonation. But the carbonation is soft, and I thought it was easy enough to drink. I liked this brew a lot, it’s a very enjoyable saison. Definitely recommend this to anyone who likes saisons.

75cl bottle. Hazy golden amber beer, big white head. Nose is fruity, malts, yeast notes. Flavor is caramel notes, malt, fruit and yeast. Yeasty finish, some mild funk. Not exactly impressive, but not bad either.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a huge rocky head that dissipates little by little. Big farmyard nose with apple and pear, wet hay, cobwebs. Very earthy with some manure notes as well. Full-on farmyard. Highly carbonated and a little fruity sweetness, but as the finish starts the bitterness kicks in. Dry finish with peppery hops. A lot going on and great for the price. Hides the alcohol very well.
