Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat.

It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

D’Epeautre is hand-brewed in small batches by the impassioned, gifted Blaugies brewers, a husband, wife, and son team. They’re very adventurous in recreating traditional beer styles – and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The family enjoys good food and beer, and consumes a lot of its own product for cooking and drinking. We like the rougher, grainier malt texture of all their beers. They give you the feeling that the brewers put this beer in a bottle just a few days ago, especially for you.

Big saison this time, a 75cl bottle from beergium sarei with Friend. Aroma of lactose, cheese, basement aromas, earthy, for a rustic and big nose. golden, clear beer with rocky head, white foam. Taste is little sour with Sweet fruits, some grain, cheese, a little bit of grassy and some Spice. Quite dry finish. medium body, flat, oily feel, bitter and dry finish. Great saison, should it use to be.

Big bottle shared at home. Clear golden with big bright white head that leaves a nice long lasting film. Looks like a classic Belgian ale. Cloves, lots of dry Belgian spicy yeast, raw grains, wheat, fresh baked bread, lemon. Light sweet and bitter. Under medium bodied, bone dry and slick feel with fizzy carbonation. Super drinkable classic style. Not hugely exciting but way better than more commercial examples.

75cl bottle, served in tulip. Pours hazy golden with medium white head. Aroma is mostly lemon and cereals with hints of green apples. Regarding flavour, malts, yeast and hops are so very well balanced. Extremely pleasant bitterness on the palate, no sour touch and, of course, no cloying sweetness. Easy to drink and refreshing, no problem drinking liters of this. Light/medium body, very good carbonation. This is almost perfect, really underrated. Chapeau!

37,5cl corked bottle at home. Beautifully slightly cloud, light golden colour, nice lively carbonation rising up to form a big white, foamy head. Nose and taste are intensely malty, bready, lightly musty and distantly tard and citrusy. Dry finish. Great balance of flavours. Light body, lively carbonation (indeed champagne-like).

Light gold with very thick, longlasting head. High carbonation, naturally produced. Light notes aroma with light bread, minerals and slightly herbal. Fresh and crisp to the nose. Tasting is in line with the above. Light, fresh andr dry with tones of light bread and minerals. This is well executed!

Bottle. Pours yellow, with an enormous creamy head slowly receding to two finger thickness. Aroma is farmhousey yeast, with notes of earth, malty notes of cereals, bread and honey, as well as some salty minerals and light herbal hoppy notes. Medium body, with fizzy carbonation. Flavour is dry yeast with musty wood and farmhouse notes, malty notes of cereals, kandi and toffee, as well as some herbal hops in the back. Lingering dry, musty farmhouse notes throughout, with an almost absurd drinkability. Brilliant!
