Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat.

It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

D’Epeautre is hand-brewed in small batches by the impassioned, gifted Blaugies brewers, a husband, wife, and son team. They’re very adventurous in recreating traditional beer styles – and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The family enjoys good food and beer, and consumes a lot of its own product for cooking and drinking. We like the rougher, grainier malt texture of all their beers. They give you the feeling that the brewers put this beer in a bottle just a few days ago, especially for you.

750 ml bottle @ Břker & Břrst. Slightly unclear orange body with a nice, long lasting white head. Nice farmhouse aroma, slightly fruity, spices, yeast and hint of cheese. Nice flavor, true to style. A bit undefined fruity, spicy yeast, hay/grass and grapefruit. Medium body and decent aftertaste. A nice, classic complex sasion.

Saison with spelt from a brewery passionate about the style - and a brewery which has only delighted me with their farmhouse ales so far. In existence since 1994. Very rocky, sticky, yellow beige, stable head and warm lemony yellow colour with peachy hue, cloudy with deposit. Powerful aroma with sourish spelt, sweetish barley, peppery hops, lemon peel, ginger, apple, pepper and an earthy and somewhat sulphuric ’barnyard’ effect distinguishing this from many other attempts at this ancient beer style. Dry taste with good balance between sourish spelt and sweetish barley same as in the aroma, sharpish spicy and yeasty notes in the middle, long and dry hop bitterishness in the finish. Complex and perhaps a bit underestimated in my opinion.

A hazy colour of straw, the foam took ages to settle down. Big yeasty, wheat, and spicy notes in the smell. Yeasty and strong notes of wheat and pepper, mild coriander, some banana. Very complex and rather a dry brew to be sipping on. Light bodied with plenty of carbonation. Beers using Spelt wheat sure are strange but I like this.

Bottle. Light golden, hazy, large and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish aroma, light notes of barnyard and faint bread, light spiciness (coriander, light pepper), light citrus and hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty - lightly wheaty and dryish flavor, light spiciness and light - some herbal hoppyness. Finish is short to average malty - faintly wheaty and dry, light - some spiciness and light - some herbal hoppyness, light alcohol. Bit thin saison - too much alchol in the finish considering the body. Could use more body to balance spiciness and alcohol.

Draft at Edmunds Oast. Clear golden pour with a large rocky white head. Musty, yeasty aroma along with lemon peels, grains of paradise and light grains. Flavor is similar with moderate carbonation in the mouth and a medium body yet slightly fuller for a saison. Nice beer.

This summer seasonal Saisons has a sharp flavour to the tongue and a lingering palate, a Classic Wheatie aroma and a golden brown appearance. Enjoy!

Hazy, golden yellow, with a fantastic froth head. Has aromas of musty yeast, nutmeg, cheese and corn, with hints of pepper and clove. Taste is defined by soft, sunny yeast, with peppery spices, along with a lively carbonation. Inherits an interesting flavor of popcorn, which pairs well with metallic hints and fresh cut grass. The finish brings a lot of warm spices to the palate, also soft yeast with a subtle bitter aftertaste. Well balanced, very refreshing. Has a smooth mouthfeel, while the body is noteworthy complex for a light to medium-bodied saison.

Bouteille. La cervoise 91. Robe jaune doré, mousse blanche. Nez malté, de citron et de levure . Bouche typée sur la levure de saison , le poivre avec un goût d'épeautre bien prononcé. Finale sèche . Carbonation dense. Une saison différente ... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Hazy yellow with a very large frothy white head. Light dusty, honey, citrus, pear, white pepper, light barnyard, gain. Medium body, oily/watery texture, lively carbonation medium sweet and bitter. Long finish. Textbook saison with good complexity and drinkability. Difficult to find anything to complain about.
