COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat.

It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

D’Epeautre is hand-brewed in small batches by the impassioned, gifted Blaugies brewers, a husband, wife, and son team. They’re very adventurous in recreating traditional beer styles – and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The family enjoys good food and beer, and consumes a lot of its own product for cooking and drinking. We like the rougher, grainier malt texture of all their beers. They give you the feeling that the brewers put this beer in a bottle just a few days ago, especially for you.

On tap at Global Brew. Pours a very pale yellow with a thick egg white head. Grass and perfume aroma. Taste is clean, sprite-like and tart pale malt with mild hoppiness. Crisp. Good.

Bottle. Blond pour with thick white foamy head. Aroma of belgian yeast, cereal, wheat (epeautre), relatively plain. Taste is your regular yeasty Blaugies saison with a more pronunced sweetness. A very good. easy drinking, not filling, neutral beer that goes well with any dish. Another lovely saison by Blaugies

Bottle. Hazy hay yellow liquid with medium to big white head. Aroma of white, bread, grain, smoke, plastic, spices and ham. Taste is dry and light bitter with notes of white pepper, lemon, bubblegum, grain and plastic. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Ok, but lots of phenols.

Kind of a lame saison here. Really heavy banana, bubble gum, and clove. Spritzy and light which is nice but the flavor is toooo saison without any malt backbone.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2014 Light yeast cloudiness, hazy bright yellow in colour with a large frothy white head, medium lasting offering soft liquid lacings. Noses of hay, floral, basement aromas, barnyard, musty, and hints of spruce. On the palate the brewery theme sticks to the plan offering a lovely fizzyness with light bitter-sour, acidic notes with hints of sweetness. Light-medium bodied well balanced on the palate with a soft-light texture. The finish is lightly dry, refreshing and a bit short. All in all a pleasant beer!

Trevlig

Bottle, 6 years past the BBD. Pours hazy yellow with airy off-white head and dark sediments. Sweetish aroma of honey and apple wine. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with dusty notes and touches of alcohol and yeast. Coffeelike finish, with roasty and sweetish hints. Not bad, despite the, ehm... customer-induced maturation! ;-)
