Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat.

It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

D’Epeautre is hand-brewed in small batches by the impassioned, gifted Blaugies brewers, a husband, wife, and son team. They’re very adventurous in recreating traditional beer styles – and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The family enjoys good food and beer, and consumes a lot of its own product for cooking and drinking. We like the rougher, grainier malt texture of all their beers. They give you the feeling that the brewers put this beer in a bottle just a few days ago, especially for you.

opalescent yellow colour, huge, not too dense and short living white head; aroma of wheat, grassy notes, some sour fruitiness, earthy yeasts, floral and animal notes; taste of souris breadiness, fruits, yeasts and spicy notes; great Saison

Tap@akkurat. Yellow golden hazy. Belgy yeasty, some belgy blond vibes to it. Estery, that is. Hay malty, pale malty. Nice bodied, somewhat bitter, dry finish. Citrus, some ginger. Ok. Bit too spicy for my liking, but nice flavoursome.

Tap@ Akkurat. Cloudy amber,  thick white head. Yeasty,  citrusy,  cellar aroma. Flavor has  citrus,  Belgian hops,  floral notes. So fruity,  hoppy,  perfect saison. Well not really, on the sweeter side as it turns out later, as it warms a little. Still great.

Bottle. (thanks Eddan) A bit hazy golden with a large white head. Aroma of grass, soap and hints of saffron. Similar taste, also malt and light yeast. Sweet and with a fairly dry finish. The body was light.

@ Eddan 15-1-10: lätt liten tvålig doft. Kanske med aningen safran. Smaken är mycket blek tyvärr, med en besk eftersmak. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---- Soberness not garanteed!

On bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Clear golden color( after standing upright for a week)- good foam. Medium/high aroma intensity; funky, also stable aroma along with good floral & fruity aromas. Medium body & complexity. Some sourness, good bitterness- well balanced. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

375ml bottle. Initial pour is clear golden with a large and long lasting white head, excellent lacing. Aroma is of yeast and must, some bananas and peaches, light sourness. Flavour is yeasty, some dust, lemon citrus, a bit dry and bitter. Yeasty mouthfeel, medium/light body, high carbonation. Finishes long, yeasty, lots of citrus and quite dry. I started off not really liking this but it got better as it warmed. A nice saison.

0.75L bottle from Belgian e-shop Slightly hazy, straw color, big white head that lasts decorates the glass beautifully. Intense aroma, yeasty estery, citric, sweet grains, spicy from the wheat/spelt. Good amount of yeast at the bottom. Nice fruity taste, grains, some spiciness, slighty hoppyness. There is a funky/wild yeasty smell, something like light white fruitiness(pear?) that would be a negative in any other beer. High carbonation, medium body, dry. Not at the hoppy side of saison but a very nice brew nonetheless.
