COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat.

It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

D’Epeautre is hand-brewed in small batches by the impassioned, gifted Blaugies brewers, a husband, wife, and son team. They’re very adventurous in recreating traditional beer styles – and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The family enjoys good food and beer, and consumes a lot of its own product for cooking and drinking. We like the rougher, grainier malt texture of all their beers. They give you the feeling that the brewers put this beer in a bottle just a few days ago, especially for you.

From tasting notes. Pours hazy orange with a medium head. Sweet yeasty aroma with a mix of spices. Flavor is sweet but quite spicy with a hint of citrus.

Very farmy, horse, hint of sourness, enough classic hops, interesting yeast. A true classic saison in the yeasty, good sense. No spices needed here. Sure the yeast brings some pepper and clove but that’s without any additives. Very good brew, enough malt backup. Not the most extreme beer out there bit saison lovers will like this. I do. Nearly clear golden color, monstrous pillowy head, good lace/retention. Aroma initially pinched the nose but gives notes of yeast, dust, straw, somewhat fruity. Medium bodied, lightly sweet, quite drinkable. Pretty nice.

Pours a cloudy gold with a ton of floaties. Aroma is pretty dead. Taste is bland and lifeless. Listless. Pretty meh. Dry finish. High carb.

ThirstyBird (1506) - Düsseldorf, GERMANY - SEP 11, 2013
pours an unclear gold with a lofty white head. Smell is earthy, funky, spicy, grain, grass, light malt. Taste is spicy, lightly malty, a little perfume, tart fruit, and a bit watery compared to the nose. Body is light and the the carbonation is like hydrogen peroxide - way too much. I was excited to try this and unfortunately the taste wasn’t up to the nose.

Hopfiger Antrunk, herum gewürzig, deutlich zu viel Karbonisierung. Geschmacklich in Ordnung, leicht Kräuternoten, wenig bitter. Wässriges Ende. 11/9/9/8/8/8

Pale golden color, brilliant and transparent. Great head, white, foamy and exuberant, though not lasting. Leaves a notable lace, irregular, like little islands in the inner walls of the glass. Earthy and natural aroma, yeasty but malty, like bread, grass and yeast. The aroma, however, is light and shortlasting. The mouthfeel is like a typical saison, but slightly sweeter. Rustic, with citric notes (lemon zest), well balanced with raw grain traces. Well carbonated, low bodied, the overall is quite nice and eminently refreshing. Nice saison.
