COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat.

It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

D’Epeautre is hand-brewed in small batches by the impassioned, gifted Blaugies brewers, a husband, wife, and son team. They’re very adventurous in recreating traditional beer styles – and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The family enjoys good food and beer, and consumes a lot of its own product for cooking and drinking. We like the rougher, grainier malt texture of all their beers. They give you the feeling that the brewers put this beer in a bottle just a few days ago, especially for you.

Bottle from Humulus. Satisfying champagne-like pop. Very pale, pillowy white head on top. Aroma of sun-baked hay fields reminds me of the countryside in summer, touch of woody herbs. Spritzy carbonation, but appropriate. Soft, light doughy sweetness to start on the tongue, then develops into light herbs, lemon, a hint of pine needles, a bit of creaminess. Lots to discover as it warms. Light in body, dry and bitter finish. Beautiful stuff.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy light golden body with a large, bubbly white head. Nose is boiled vegetables, faint stable notes, hay, straw, bread dough and hints of white sugar and baker’s yeast. Taste is white sugar, baker’s yeast, bready malt tones, citric peel and hints of bitter herbs, wet grass and gooseberries. Light to medium body, fizzy carbonation. A saison with a certain character to it, despite a slightly off-note aroma and a far too fizzy carbonation level - even for a farmhouse/saison-style of beer. Not fantastic, but not too bad either.

A light yellow beer with a big, clouding and blond head. The aroma is just as good as it should be in the good saison. Earthyness and sourness, spices, some fruis, hint of lemon and flowers. Taste is fruiful with lemon, slightly sour and spicy, quite dry. Strong carbonation, medium bodied, together with dryness makes this a fresh to drink. The great beer with the perfect balance, easy and enjoyable.
