NDmullet (208), South Bend, Indiana, USA Dec 27, 2002 My label didn’t have the word ’pale’; this is definitely not an APA, but a Kolsch as the label clearly states. Hazy, mellow gold body, vigorous columns of carbonation, and a large, bubbly white head, which looks like a cumulus. Airy nose, quite fruity (honeydew and other melon, lingonberries), moderately hoppy, contributing to an interesting saison-like spiciness. Soft texture, very pleasing to the palate. High drinkability, and still reasonably complex. I’m not sure how well this fits into the style guidelines, as the only other of the style I’ve had is Goose Island Summertime. Still, I find this quite delightful, an ideal quaffer for the warmer months. Schroppfy (1741), Ohio, USA Apr 8, 2003 Actually a very good Kolsch, but variable. Two samples have yielded one quite Noble hoppy, with tons of grassy maltiness (slivhtly sweet) -- the other sample was quite sweet without the hoppiness (more like the kolschs I've had) - both were good, and wonderfully unfiltered gems. This rating is for the less sweet sample. Too damn bad this brewery is gone!!!! sethdude (524), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 19, 2003 Pours a hazy golden color, head lasting less than a minute, was thin and almost completely clear, almost no lacing whatsoever. Smells light and a bit fruity. Flavor is definitely sweet and fruity on the start, nice and malty in the middle, with an ever so weak finish. A very drinkable Kölsch, which is the entire purpose of the style. Thanks to Dogbrick for this one.
Drew (2377), Kent, Ohio, USA Mar 4, 2002 very nice - crisp, lightly hopped. a little thin at the end. a good thirst quencher. thedm (3407), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 31, 2003 Thanks to Dogbrick for this sample. This brew poured a small head of fine to medium sized white colored bubbles that left behind a very hazy straw yellow colored softly carbonated body and a fair lacing. THe aroma is a typical mild malt hop one and the mouthfeel is thin crisp and bubble. The flavor is also that of malt hops and something else I could not put my finger on. Its not a bad beer, but it is different although somewhat subdued.
