brewrater (88), akron, Ohio, USA Nov 21, 2004 Do you love toasted malt? You WOULD have liked this. Interesting combination of coffee/chocolate without the thickness of a stout. Unfortunate end to a brewery willing to blaze some uncommon trails. Darkover (1189), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 17, 2003 Bottled. Very dark brown color with a big tan head. Aroma and flavor of caramel malt and a little roast. Thanks to Dogbrick for the trade. bluemeow76 (685), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA Jun 4, 2003 Pours a dark black color with a thin tan head. Mild carbonation is apparent. Aroma is malty with a hint of coffee. The flavor matches with a malty, coffee and chocolate taste. jah noth (934), Rochester, New York, USA Mar 14, 2003 I love a good Schwarzbier and this is a decent attempt. Nice roasted flavor, not as rich as a stout, obviously, with a decent caramel undertone. Drinkable, though a bit watery. Dogbrick (2166), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 10, 2003 On draught at the Geisen Haus in Canton, OH. The server was unaware that Blimp City has gone out of business. This is under the label of "house dark" but it is definitely the Black Ale. Pours a flat black color with a thin light beige head. Mild carbonation is apparent. Aroma of malt with some caramel. Flavor has a lightly fizzy feel and tastes of malt, coffee, and caramel. Finish is thin and sweet with a touch of chocolate. Not outstanding but still a shame to see it go.
