Jet black pour w/ a huge nearly nitro looking brown head w/ great lacing. Minimal aroma some light coffee notes w/ a light bitterness. Flavor of cofee and bitter coccoa powder some syrups lots of sugars finishes like a burned cup of coffee. Big bold creamy palate. Overall so close to great, but just ok as is.

On tap at GTMW. Poured near black with a dense dark brown head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty black malts with not a whole lot of character to it.. interesting tangy undertones. The flavor found warm molasses, chocolate, and vanilla at the core.. tangy coffee-ee maltage and alcohol warmth around.. sweet vanilla and chocolate on the tasty finish. Heavier-bodied with nice balance between the tangy and deep malty notes.. a few too many residual sugars in the end, but that was easy enough to look past.. nice one.

Draft at Blind Pig. Sours an attractive black with brown at the edges. Nose is nice and roasty with molasses and cocoa. Some light and woody hops pull through as well. On taste, it’s a bit hot imo, especially towards the end. Nice bitterness and minimal astringency and the dark malts shine with not too much residual sweetness. Pretty nice one.

Draft at Brewpub (aka the Piglet) in Champaign, IL. Served in a tulip glass (way too cold), this pours a beautiful dark brown/black with a retentive brown head that leaves webby lacing. Aroma of dark bakers chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Full bodied with a slick texture. Flavor of dark roasted malts, spent coffee grounds, cocoa powder, and a hint of char. Attenuation is about average. Finishes dry and extremely bitter, with the alcohol well hidden. When this gets to room temp, the bitterness mellows a bit. Another well done beer by Bill, but perhaps the roast and bitterness is too overdone for my personal tastes.
