Dark cola color with a small amount of khaki head that lingers around the rim. Smells of vegetal strong black coffee, anise. Taste is a strong coffee, roasted malt, a little chocolate and anise like sweetness, low carbonation, dry. A good roasted quality overall and coffee smells and tastes are very strong, earthy coffee. Good overall.

On tap @ GABF. Black pour with a tan head. Nose is a touch acidic. Plenty of roasted malt, lots of coffee, and chocolate. A touch of molasses and toffee. Flavor is mildly sweet. Lots of coffee, a light spicy note, and some toffee and molasses sweetness. Decent roast, chocolate, and coffee grounds.

Sample @ GABF 13. Pours a pitch black beer with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is massive coffee notes, some vanilla and coconut and almond. Flavour is very nice, fresh coffee, big toffee and caramel with a thick, sticky mouthfeel. Decent brew, nice surprise. Long, sweet finish.

Draft @ GABF 2013. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty coffee aroma. Roasted malty coffee flavor with hints of chocolate. Has a roasted malty coffee finish.

Pint at the brewpub. Pours very dark, near black. The aroma has rich, real coffee all over the place. They have captured the coffee bean essence near perfectly. The flavor is packed with coffee and a creamy malt balance. Excellent coffee beer.

Sample at GABF 2013. Pours near black with a medium beige head. Aroma of big roast, chocolate, coffee, caramel and light licorice. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Reviewed from notes taken during the Great Nebraska Beer Festival.
Aroma has a nice, moderately strong, roast coffee aroma with some malt notes of light roast and moderate chocolate. A hint of green pepper with some light dark fruit esters.
Pours a dark brown with a small, thick, tan head with decent retention.
Flavor is similar to the aroma with quite a bit of freshly roasted coffee. Medium light roast malt note with moderate chocolate notes. Medium low bitterness with a light astringency. Low dark fruit esters, mostly plum and berries.
Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium light carbonation. Medium low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
An alright coffee beer, but I prefer my coffee to have a character more similar to a cold pressed coffee. The astringency was a bit higher than I would prefer. Malt balance was really nice as were the low dark fruit esters.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear deep amber brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice combination of dark grains, coffee and roasted malts. Flavor starts with dark grains and coffee and is balanced by roasted malts.
