COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego style IPA. On our recent trip to San Diego for the World Beer Cup we had several opportunities to soak up the local beer scene. San Diego area brewers and their aggressively hopped beers have made the west coast style of brewing famous. This IPA employs an indecent amount of Amarillo & Simcoe hops. We named the brew after the Top Gun fighter pilot school in Miramar, CA. The color is reminiscent of a San Diego Sunset and the body s lighter and dryer than our Tiger Bite IPA. By the time you finish this beer you’ll know you’ve been in a hop fight.

64 ounce growler from the brewpub. Pours a bright golden orange hue with a fizzy quarter inch head. Good lacing. Aroma is of freshly mown grass with light pine, maybe some grapefruit, in the background. Initially I get a very light mouthfeel with a surprising amount of malt. Good balance and nice hop bitterness in the finish. It takes a while for the hops to hit you, but once they do you get loads of grass and pine. Is it possible for an IPA to be refreshing? Maybe the best offering from Blind Tiger.

On tap in the brewpub. I’m a hophead so this one rates very high for me. Out of balance to the hop side - excellent aromatics. Head holds nicely and great lacing. Citrus, pine, chewy - very well done.

GABF 2009. Lighet colored than most IPA’s. Yellowish. Full hop flavor however. Big west coast hop flavor. Fuller mouthfeel. Never thought I had any reason /desire to go to Kansas this brewery might change this

In the growler at the 2009 Pre-GNBF tasting. Yellow amber color with a big off white head. The aroma is serious simcoe all the way. This is thick and orange grapefruit citrus. Very nice hophead’s beer.

On tap at the LBG brewfest. Dank, resiny columbus hops are apparent right away along with pine, grapefruit, and maybe a little bit of pineapple. Smells fantastic. Subdued malt provides a bit of sweetness, at first, to prop up the hops. A fair amount of bitterness, but it is very smooth. Hops flavor is the star of the show, lots of citrus, a little pine and a wonderful resiny flavor. A very nice IPA.

On tap at the brewpub. The nose was really nice with lots of grapefruit and sweet bread crust. There was also some walnut character. The taste was largely grapefruit with some bread crust. There was also some unsalted roast peanut shells. The body was deep amber colored with an off white head. Nicely done.
