3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bvc (1004) - Kenmore, USA - JUN 25, 2010
Growler brought back from me by my buddy Wade. This beer has an extremely low carbon footprint given that it was brought back from Corvallis to Seattle. Start with the earth friendly practices of Block 15, this was transported back via Prius then brought to me at work via bicycle. Pours a hazed darker honey with ample off white head that settles down and leaves decent lacing. Fruity esters, papaya, peach, touch of pineapple and banana damp wheaty, nice spiciness that is heavier on the pepper side. Nice balance of wheat, fruity esters, floral honey with some grassiness and peppery finish balaned out with pilsner malt. Keeps changing on the nose and in flavor...really enjoyed this. Thanks Wade!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beerlando (3324) - Orlando, Florida, USA - APR 18, 2012
750ml bottle, 2011 vintage. The body is a gorgeous, glowing honey-amber color. A tall and fluffy head of just barely off-white foam settles slowly, leaving behind tall, looping sun-spot flares and a dense, lasting surface blanket. The nose is decidedly peppery and floral, suggesting of hibiscus, grain of paradise, and both dry lemon pith and oily rind. The underlying malt base shows honey-kissed, dry wheat bread and crisp pils. There’s a softly acidic component, hinting perhaps at a slightly eggy and lactic yeast profile. Flavors mirror the nose, not overly spicy, but sufficiently so and dry. It’s again quite dry and floral. Honey is really an afterthought, as the bready malts and sharp, zippy farmhouse yeast don’t succumb to its sweetness. It gets spicier on the back end, touching on lemongrass. The palate is less substantive than its 7% label foreshadows, showing crisp acidity and lively carbonation up front before transitioning to a creamy midpoint and then back to semi-dry. Unique brew. I think the role of the honey is to calm the intensity of the spicing. It wouldn’t hurt to back both off a bit, though. Solid brew for sure.

Bottle shared by Brad at Jackie O’s. Cloudy orange pour with a thick white head. Aroma of tart oranges and malt. Tart fruit flavor with some funk and orange before a bitter orange peel finish.

750 ml bottle from MVW and shared with friends. Pours a rich hazy golden hue, darker with some orange flashes, darkness and rich haze. A frothy brighter white head sits atop, laces ok overall. Sticks around as a thorough film. Aromas are rich brett, tart lemon, and zest. Touches of sourness, cobwebs, and barnyard. Straw, pale malts, bread, dough. Gentle yeast, wet oak, touches of vanillin. Some grass. Rich powerful sour wild aroma is a pleasant surprise. Touches of fruits, gentle sweetness. Initial is fuller on the palate, yet lighter end of medium bodied offering tart lemons, gentle spice, and some dry grass. Zesty lemony life, gentle fruit, dryness and light quaffable body, prickly body that is silky over the palate. Middle preaches a touch of sweetness, tartness and dryness into the finish, lots of lemon, gentle apple and pear, touches of oak linger on, with bretty funk, dryness. Really well done beer here.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a big/huge white head on it. A nice fruity saison with plenty of spice and earth notes to it as well. Some lemon zest and perhaps some green apple and other citrus. Slight sweetness of bread/cracker malts, too. The flavor is a touch sweet, but still decently dry from the Brett. Again, some fruity tones to go along with the earthy and floral character.

[Bottle] shared by skinny guy. Thanks, Dan! Slow gusher pours cloudy gold with a bubbly white head. Aroma is light Brett, lightly herbal and crackery, and a bit of background sweetness. Flavor is a bit too sweet, not enough malt character, light Brett, some honey, dryish finish, lively carbonation.

Bottle pour thanks to Boody. Big thanks for a great beer! Very hazy light straw pour with a white head with nice lacing. Aroma is huge white fruit, citrus, some brett funk, some staw. Great. Taste is peaches, grape skins, very floral. Slightly funky. Insanely dry. Great, great beer.

750, corked and baled. Thanks, Melissa! Pours a hazy pale gold with a towering, sudsy, brilliant white head and tons of surging nucleation columns. A picture-perfect saison. Loose strings of eggy lace on the sides of the glass. Bright grassy, floral, lemony nose; appealing and decently complex. Could be a tiny bit crisper. Rich fizzy farmhouse body, nice presence. Grass, floral, hay, and lemon notes on the mid-palate. Mild tangy finish. Nice saison.
