12oz bottle. Thanks to Todd for sending our way... Pours a dark cola-ey pour, thin with reddish edges and not all that much of head while topped with a minimal film of head... Aroma of ash papery malt forward bomb. Aged for the most part with tootsie roll and nutty chocolate malt notes... Flavors are more of the same. Sweeter with tootsie roll chocolate notes. Somewhat flimsy body but nicer after warming. Not that deserving of the higher ratings but still nice regardless..

Bottle, thanks Kan! Pours black no head. Aroma is smokey, ash, metallic. Flavors sharp barrel notes, ashy cigar character, sweet plums. Really thinned out.

355mL shared with GT2. Clear, deep brown pour. Weaker head, no thick foam. Nose is hazelnut oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Taste is maple syrup and cinnamon. Palate is sweeter, not cloying/sticky. Overall was really nice for a dessert beer. I really liked this one!

355mL 2011 ed thanks to writerljberg. Pours deep sepia, clear, bubbles, no head formation. Nose is heavy bourbon barrel, woody, rich coconut, macadamia, buttered french toast, hazelnut ganache, yellow rum cake. Woah. Sharp impending alcohol like Baileys or Kalhua liquor. Slight Phenols detract. Taste is hazelnut cookie, oatmeal, praline, thick buttery baked goods. Very dessert heavy, no balancing bitterness, but in a 6oz sample it is quite enjoyable. Palate is a bit powdery, dry, chalky. But not cloying.

Thanks for the bottle, Luke! Pours black as night with a dense tan head. Heavy roasted malt initially with lots of burnt sugar, dark chocolate, dark fruit, and vanilla. A light wood aroma and some mild bourbon. A hint of spice in there as well. The flavor is definitely on the sweet side with lots of sugar, molasses, vanilla, fruit. Good bourbon notes, slight oakiness, and a good bit of roast do balance out the sweetness fairly well. Very little, if any, alcohol presence.

25cL glass at Beermongers. 2011 ’vintage’. A: Pitch black with a surprisingly creamy head. There are some medium legs for this one. N: Chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and oak. There’s definitely some licorice and anise in here. And oh, yeah, I can smell the alcohol. I know for a fact that it’s better integrated in the bottle, but I’m reviewing the tap here. T: Oh boy..lots of Belgian candi sugar, alcohol, licorice and chocolate. Heavy dark fruits such as prune and blackberry. Lots and lots of Belgian yeast. Super sweet and very much a Belgian stout. M: Highly carbonated and a medium to thin mouthfeel. Not really impressed here, though it fits with the Belgian yeast. So I’ll average what I want and what it probably should get for the yeast it uses. O: A lot of people really seem to like this one, but I’m not terribly onboard. It’s an extremely sweet confection, which if you’re looking for that, will fit nicely, but for me, I’m hoping this one changes as it ages in my remaining bottles.

I was really expecting to not like this beer since it was described as a ’Belgian’ style stout, but it really is good. It pours a very solid black body with minimal dark brown head. The aroma is really out there, tons of scents and smells from across the board that somehow work; buttery popcorn, fresh and dried figs raisins prunes black cherries etc, undiluted molasses, meaty carbon, tons more; sweet and dense, slightly smiley salty and burnt, can’t say enough about it. The flavor is to match, just so much going on its hard to find where to start. The Belgian yeast is there, but subtle, spicy, earthy, very full. The mouth feel is right on, velvety, full, complex amd lasting. The yeast gives just the perfect amount of livelyness on the palate to balance the thick oily body. This is a damn nice beer, one of block 15’s best for sure. Very unique, interesting and most of all delicious!!!
