I was really expecting to not like this beer since it was described as a ’Belgian’ style stout, but it really is good. It pours a very solid black body with minimal dark brown head. The aroma is really out there, tons of scents and smells from across the board that somehow work; buttery popcorn, fresh and dried figs raisins prunes black cherries etc, undiluted molasses, meaty carbon, tons more; sweet and dense, slightly smiley salty and burnt, can’t say enough about it. The flavor is to match, just so much going on its hard to find where to start. The Belgian yeast is there, but subtle, spicy, earthy, very full. The mouth feel is right on, velvety, full, complex amd lasting. The yeast gives just the perfect amount of livelyness on the palate to balance the thick oily body. This is a damn nice beer, one of block 15’s best for sure. Very unique, interesting and most of all delicious!!!

Bottle shared at the Commons, PDX, big thanks to Luke - Sarlacc83, 09/11/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with moderate light tan spotting. Nose is tangy dark fruits, spice, chocolate, earthy, chocolate balsam notes. Taste comprises bitter dark fruit, liqourice, spice, tagny dark fruit, chocolate, charr, aniseed. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with lightly warming alcohol. Solid impy, drinks well below the ABV, nice fruit balsam effect.

2011 poured from tap to glass. Dark hue with creamy brown head that held a ring. Aroma is huge toffee, figs, dates, tobacco, leather, caramel, ethanol. Mouthfeel is fantastic with a full body and crisp carbonation. Taste is sweet (but not cloying), followed by s nice ethanol warming in the finish. Overall this vintage is amazing right now!

12oz bottle. Thanks to Todd for sending our way... Pours a dark cola-ey pour, thin with reddish edges and not all that much of head while topped with a minimal film of head... Aroma of ash papery malt forward bomb. Aged for the most part with tootsie roll and nutty chocolate malt notes... Flavors are more of the same. Sweeter with tootsie roll chocolate notes. Somewhat flimsy body but nicer after warming. Not that deserving of the higher ratings but still nice regardless..
