The past three summers, The Cherry Country has delivered fresh picked montmorency cherries. These tart red beauties were packed into first and second run kentucky bourbon barrels and then filled with Enchanted, our open fermented oud bruin. This fall, we blended select barrels from the program, harmoniously marrying young and mature fruit notes with oak, gentle bourbon, and tart brown ale.

375mL bottle from the brewery. Served in a snifter. A: Brackish brown color with a very, very thin reddish-white lacing. Clings to the glass for a bit before gliding down. N: Deep whiffs of tart cherries, some sweetness of oak and vanilla from the bourbon, and a slight acetic element. However, this one leans more towards the former and less towards the latter. T: Sour oaked beer. The cherries lend the tartness to the beer, and then there’s a depth of oak, bourbon, vanilla, and honey. Some cranberry and some acetone, some dark berries in the very back. M: Medium mouthfeel which contains more than its fair share of carbonation. No alcohol presence and a very pleasing level of sourness. O: A balanced candy of a beer. A complementing mixture of sweet and sour. I would take this over the Dissident or Earthmonk every day of the week. Recommended.

Pours a thick hazy salmon tinted brown with little head. Sweet toasted caramel malt aroma with strong notes of cherry pie. Flavor is very dry and bitter. Cherry is a bit subtle. Tartness overpowers with woody lemon peel notes.

375 from the brewery. Pours a cloudy red color with a medium white head. A sweet woody nose with some big cherry. The flavor is oak, vanilla, sour sawdust, tart cherries, some mellow old Briun elements. Good.

375mL bottle, pours a robust pinkish ruby red with a small pinkish beige head. Aroma of cherries and bourbon barrels. Flavour brings out cherries upfront, transitioning towards bourbon barrels, finishing boozy and bourbony. Weird combination between the cherries and bourbon, but it works. Solid.

Beautiful smooth sour cherry nose. Super dry, a little vanilla, heaps of fresh cherry and stalky woodiness.

Good sour courtesy of Todd. Really lemony tart zing up front and a middle of fresh cherries and a finish of vanilla and a light nuttyness which is taken over by more tartness. Lots going on but I go in not needing the bourbon barrel. Put this in a nice wine barrel and I think it would do wonders.

375 ml bottle acquired via trade. Awesome. Pours a nicely deep ruby brown hue, good haziness, some copper body and glow throughout, edges some cherry vinegar glow. A bigger cakey whitish head atop dies to a small ring, laces small. Aromas are richer oak, cherries and cherryskin. Firm tartness, more oak, some vanilla, gentle yet slowly growing vinegar. Really nice nose, Balsamic and cherry richness, touches of oak, spirit, mellow vanilla. A faint winey feel even though it’s Bourbon. This nose is pretty well put together. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a bit lighter. Some cherries, cherryskin, and mellow balsamic quality grows. Firmer sourness into the middle, lactic tangyness hits the palate. A touch more thin, the oak and Bourbon, mellow sweetness hit as we move into that middle and backend realm. Oak, cherries, red wine, vanilla, and more oak. A touch of warmth and that Bourbon/Whiskey feel into the backend and finish makes it’s presence known. Finish is vanilla, Bourbon, some good flavors. Firm if a touch fleeting sourness/lactic quality. The Bourbon is a bit detracting, certainly a unique flavor but not to my personal tastes. A bit of red wine barrel would have been better for me. Front end and nose are pleasant, but the backend and finish detract a bit for me. Nice beer still.

light chestnut with wispy cream ring. Nose is light cherry pie, bit of sweetness playing with balsamic. Flavor similar, quite sweet, cherry, nice depth though, bit of lime throughout. Reminiscent of dryer framboise d’amorosa with less acid. Very pleasant profile and body.

Bottle... Poured hazy, pink-ish red with a moderate, eggy, grayish head. Nose had awesome wood, oak, bourbon, cheesy yeast funk, and ripe cherries. Tasted complex with warming bourbon alcohol, dark cherries, and acidic tartness along with musky funky tones. Full, rich mouthfeel, mildly sticky but still far from cloying. Wood and oak came through again before the big cherry finish.

375mL thanks to writerljberg. Pours a full haze, deep purplish ruby. Black cherry cola foam, dwindling quickly. Nose is cherry pith, black cherry, vanilla, hints of a sweeter cherry pie, mild cider vinegar. Taste is quite sharp, very citric, sharp lemon/lime, powerful carbonation. Big tanginess, saltiness. Lingering lime yogurt finish with a flash of acetic heat. Lots of lemon sourness, citric, tart. Very lemon heavy, not a lot of sweet cherry to balance. Dry, lemon juice finish.
