22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours near black with a beige head. Aroma of light sourness, some cherries, some oak and light bourbon and light notes of red wine, dark malts, and light notes of dark fruits. Flavor the same. Average texture. A solid beer.

Poured from tap to glass. Dark hue with reddish tint and tan head. Aroma is cherry, cereal malt, grapes, wood, vanilla, biscuit. Taste is nice with a medium body and good carbonation. Taste is semi dry with a malty tart following and slightly wood astringent ethanol finish. Overall this is a nice brew.

750 ml bottle. Pours a almost jet black color with a large beige head. A sour malty nose, vinous and oak. The flavor is interesting and easygoing: cherries, tartness, wine, dry white wine mostly, berries, the base saison comes in with almost funky dryness. I think this works well. The light roasted flavors are nice as well. Great brew.

Bottle shared by kevanb at the Local Option event. Most recent vintage served in a snifter. A: Pours a dark purple color with an off white head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin ring that leaves some splotchy lace down teh glass. S: Tart cherries on the nose with the pinot barrel coming through, some oak and a faint hint of the base saison with some fruity yeasty and esters. T: The saison base comes through a little more in the taste with some stone fruit esters and peppery yeasty. Tart cherries, some oak, a little pinot and some must. M: Medium light bodied with a medium carbonation level. Dry finish. O: This was a weird beer. There’s a lot going on, but thankfully the base saison wasn’t too lost with all the barrel treatments and adjuncts added. Definitely interesting. Serving type: bottle 05-28-2013

Bottle brought to and shared at Dan’s Birthday (Lyons, IL). Pours a deeper blackish brown with deeper dark haze and body. Near opaque with some ruby reddish edges. A bigger cakey light brown head atop stays as a decent layer, a bit cakey with some good stick around. Ok lacing. Aromas are oaky and biscuity, some nice vanilla and spirit. Toast and cherries meet whiskey spirit. Sour cherries, gentle cherry skin, and oak. Some biscuits, gentle toast. Some firmer oak and warmth, gentle fuzzy warm whiskey. Initial is medium bodied, a bit dry and tannic, decent to medium sour cherry skin and and tartness. Some gentle toasty and biscuity malt, some caramel, a touch thinner. Fuzzy tannic feel and more cherryskin, tart and gentle sour cherries. Mellow funk, big oak as we turn the corner. Some warmth, a bit of cocoa and brown malt back there gives that telltale feel, some tannic vanilla and wet wood, gentle spirit. Some fuzzy brett, lively carbonation and some vanilla, sour cherries, oak. Really blends well. Not big or cloying, gentle brett, lively funk, decent sourness lingers on with oak, a touch of brown malt and toastiness. Pretty solid. A bit more on the Sour Red/Brown side I’d say. Definitely up my alley.

750mL bottle, courtesy of daknole, pours with a dark mahogany colored body that supports a tan head. The aroma offers up big prune, blueberry, cherry and then cherry tart funkiness. There’s also a mild degree of spicy black strap molasses around the edges of the aroma. The taste is thick and nice with cherry funky tartness rolling into nectar like notes of prunes and blueberries. Toward the finish some malts and chocolate come to the surface and blend in nicely with the various fruity notes. This is nice stuff with a pleasing balance.

Bottle:   Deep brown, deep red hues, thin beige head, spotty lacing.   Soft tart nose, vinous, slight cherry.   Smells nice! Vinous on the tongue, oakish, tart, slightly dry, some dark pitted fruit and cherries.   A little warming.   Body and mouthfeel are smooth yet moderate.   Oaky finish, vinous, and dark cherries.   Tart and somewhat dry too.   Great stuff!   Saison, really?

Very dark brown pour, tan head. Cool beer. Tart flavors, earthy tones, vanilla, bourbon, red wine, toothpick, raisins. Nest beer!
