Each year we mature Super Nebula, our Imperial version of Nebula Stout, in unique Bourbon casks before selecting an origin-specific cocoa nib to complement the blend. Every vintage is a unique blend, never to be duplicated.

Bottle from IP trade with Aaron. Aroma and flavor is bourbon-soaked, coffee-soaked white cake. Not really sweet, toasty, but remarkably not smoky. Excellent beer.

One Year Old Bottle at Home - One of my favorite Imperial Stouts! Huge bourbon, vanilla, chocolate nose. Bitter Coffee and deep cocoa flavors are washed down in viscous bitter sweet toffee like finish. A delicious barrel aged stout!

2012 bottle. So smooth, blends exceptionally well with these choc chip cookies. Chocolatey, roasty, silky, highly refined. Zero bite, so good.

On the train from Hereford to Inverness, bottle from thanks to DW my very own wingman, 18/10/13. Pitch black with a dirty tan head that thins to a covering. Nose is big dark roast, bourbon soaked oak, boozey, dark toffee, chocolate, tar. Taste comprises chocolate, good bourbon dose but well tempered, brown sugars, molasses, dark toffee fudge. Full bodied, fine carbonation, mellow and smooth on the palate. Good balance and depth - Impy from the top draw!

Black with a very small beige head. Aroma is liquorice, molasses, soy sauce, chocolate, chicory, hint of bourbon. Oily mouthfeel, nicely balanced, smooth finish. Taste is chocolate, bourbon, molasses, chicory.

No head but beige rim on foxy reddish, almost black beer. Bourbon, vanilla, sweet, icecream-like - with nuts and chocolate. Sweet, vanilla & Bourbon onslaught - and not much else. Molasses, Dame Blanche with liqueur. Very slick, totally full-bodied. Well-crafted, but carrying a Bourbon overload.

Magnum (yes, magnum) at Les Caves. 2012 vintage. Pours an opaque dark, little to no head. Aroma rich in bourbon and chocolate, maybe some smokiness and wood, some booze. Body rich and roasty, finish smoky sweet and roAsty, cocoa. Effing amazing.

oily black, thin cream head. Initially olive nose settles to wood and rich chocolate. Flavor a touch sweeter, inky chocolate and marshmallow balanced by wood, no grit in the beautifully smooth palate that coats through the dark finish.

Bottle pours a very dark brown with almost no head. Aroma bourbon, dark fruit and roast. Taste Dark fruits, roast, cocoa, bourbon, slight wood, slight umami, a hint of lacto sourness. I donít think this was infected, just a very slight sourness. Palate a bit on the thin side, could have used more body. Hardly any carbonation. Finish mild roast and an alcohol burn. Overall an enjoyable beer but things just didnít seem to quite come together.

Bottle I brought to Richardís Graduation Party (Western Springs, IL). Pours a rich deep blackish pour, thicker and esssentially opaque. Some brownish edges glow ok. A frothy brownish head dies to a decent ring, laces ok. Aromas are gentle whiskey, oak, some vanilla and that cocoa nib presence. Touches of toffee, roast and coffee. Nice. Initial is medium bodied, a bit heavier with some gentle smoke, roast, some coffee. Gentle cocoa, some chocolate, subtle yet still there the barrel gives some gentle tannic vanilla, faint spirit. More smokey as we go into the middle and backend, some earth, campfire, faint meatiness. Caramel, cocoa, and coffee. Some espresso, more nibs and mellow barrel presence. The smokey element seems to hang on here for me, a bit ashy and campfire feeling. More earth, smoke, and barrel, a bit toasty as we finish up. The smoke element takes the reigns on this one, itís a good beer, mellow barrel, firm smoke with some cocoa nib influence. Itís pretty good, not great though. Some more silky dark chocolate influence on the backend and finish for me.
