3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (6725) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - AUG 3, 2004
Very dense, cream-coloured head; orange to pale amber beer; Rich malt and honey nose, some spices and citrus, and a bit of overripe banana, or dried figs. Very sweet taste, as sugar-preserved orange slices, honey too. Finish is a bit sharp, alcoholic and roasted. Well-bodied, slight alcoholburn. Taste remains throughout, aftertaste included. Nice one for a sweet beer, but all the same, it misses the ’élegance’ a brewer as Jpie Nain manages to convey to his "Mortal’s beers". Tad too heavy on the honey - very soluble too.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ante (3375) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 27, 2004
Nice shiny amber colour with a small white head. Sweet aroma of peaches, syrup and candied apricot. Flavour of candied apples, peach and syrup. Long intense sweet finish. Despite it's sweetness I found some elegant qualities in here.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - FEB 22, 2004
Bottle conditioned. Amber, excellent thick lasting rocky white head and good condition. Initial honeyed aroma gives way to good grainy malt and flowery perfume notes. Full bodied in the mouth with a pleasant malty sweetness laced with honey and a subtle salty spiciness developing. Finish is sweet and sticky and smooth, with definite honey notes and a hint of bitterness. Seemed to me like a nice mix of Belgian triple and pale German bock.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Voivod (304) - Como, ITALY - APR 11, 2003
The bottle is beautiful: no label, but it's wrapped in paper. Ple orange colour, cloudy, with particles and a good creamy head, persistent. Honey, fruits (peach and orange) and flowers in the aroma. The flavour is sweet, with traces of caramel, vanilla, honey and toffee and fruity (peach). Good finish, quite spicy. Pleasant, but the sweetness is a bit overpowering in the end.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Kåstå (1221) - Mol, BELGIUM - FEB 14, 2003
Cloudy, blond beer with a medium head. Sweet fruit and alcohol aroma. Sweet tropical fruit taste. Sweet aftertaste. Maybee a bit too sweet.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 omhper (15956) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - OCT 1, 2002
The unlabelled bottle comes wrapped in paper. Pours copper coloured, and sports a creamy, dense head. The aroma is very fruity and somewhat flowery. It is full bodied and dominated by a sweet mango flavour and candyish tofee. It has rich, thick mouthfeel and a lingering sweet mango finish. It is an excellent ale when sampled in small amounts, although a full bottle gets almost cloying.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - DEC 10, 2001
UPDATED: AUG 7, 2004 Amber ale. Wonderful malt aroma. Sweet, a bit spicy. It smoothly turns to bitter with a beautiful aromatic final. Very good example of Belgian strong ale.
