EithCubes (1756), Indiana, USA Jun 2, 2007 My 400th rating from the US. Draught at the brewpub. Nose is sweetish chocolate with a surprisingly high amount of roast for this type of establishment. Opaque black pour with a tanned head and good lacing. Thin body, almost water, is overcome by light toasty roast. Sweetish with a touch of balancing bitterness. Slightly burned and woody, but certainly not smoky. derekbang (83), Indiana, USA May 12, 2007 Updated: Dec 30, 2007This is a great stout that is smoky, bubbly, sweet and makes you want to drink it all day. Optigon (535), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 20, 2007 Pretty plain, smoky stout with a good mouth feel. Nothing extravagant, but a good solid stout. argo0 (6019), Washington DC, USA Jan 23, 2005 Tan head, black body. Mild arome, medium sweet, some coffee. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, roasty, some earthy/grapefruit in the background. Medium body. TAR (1995), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Apr 20, 2004 Draft: Seared prune body. Caked, mocha head. Buttered caramel, cocoa, espresso, and milk chocolate aroma. Faintly dusty with dabs of fruitcake and coarse mineral notes. Notably airy, as well. Coarse, stonelike texture works against the creaminess. Starts fairly musty with a tangy plum undertow. Touches of raisin, toasted cocout, and leather emerge toward the center. Burnt chocolate and delayed roastiness salvage the somewhat bland finish. Adequate enough.
